Jack is one of those films which was typical for Scandinavia, and Sweden in the mid 70ies. A real life story, about humans. But not particularly interesting. What these films do best, is describing and depicting how the world looked back then. As such this film is a gem, which city life from Stockholm.
Jack Råstedt is a young man struggling to be his own man. He wasn't to be an artist. A writer. Much to discontent from his parents, of course. They don't like his ideas, nor his pot smoking and beer drinking artist friends, nor their drunken parties. He's not particularly liked by his friends parents either.
It's a film about parents and children, when they are on the brink of grown up life, late and not a moment too soon. The film debates the differences in the old and the new world in the 5oies through to the 70ies. The past hippie-era. The film is well acted all over and main character Göran Stangerz does a great job in the role as Jack.
The film fails to engage me very much. It's bright and realistic, but still the plot is too uninteresting to be more than an everyday story from what was then social democratic modern Sweden. However the way the film gives a glimpse, well even more, of what Sweden was like back then, is simply wonderful. The film is as such a find. Though you need to be especially interested in that to really enjoy this. They don't make plot less social describing films like this anymore. And thanks for that!
