The names of the two detective agencies Mannix and Cannon used in the film pay tribute to two popular Detective TV shows from the 70's. The show Mannix and Cannon broadcast on CBS Sunday nights
In the film there are various interesting snippets of music used, Radar Love by Golden Earring, The Theme From Jaws by John Williams and The Theme From Enter The Dragon by Lalo Schiffrin.
Ironically Shih Kien who played the bad guy Mr. Han in Enter The Dragon appears in this film too.
The Private Eyes made $8,531,699.70 (HK$) in 1976, making it the top-grossing film by a wide margin at the Hong Kong box office. The comedic drama Love Cross-Road ($5,811,389.00) and the action thriller Jumping Ash ($3,875,745.60) rounded out the top three in '76.
The fight in the kitchen featuring a swordfish, a set of sharks teeth a couple of duck skewers and a set of sausage nunchaku was featured in edited form in the Martial Arts documentary The Best Of Martial Arts.
