The working title of this film was "The Western Story."
The film was released in Mexico City on January 15, 1959 under the title "Fugitivo."
All of Una storia del West (1958), except the opening sequence, was filmed in Mexico, and director George Sherman hired a full Mexican crew. Mexican filming locations included Cuernavaca, Tepoztlan, Taxco and the Vilchis Ranch, as well as at the Estudios Churubusco.
