An original scene had Bugs running up a gallows to escape Sam; he uses the trap door like an elevator, and when Sam tries, he gets hung in the noose (he kicks and curses in the rope). This was edited from most broadcasts. However, the fully uncut version appears on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVD and is shown on Turner Classic Movies.
The dynamic between Schultz and the warden might have been inspired by Vogliamo vivere! (1942), which featured a bumbling subordinate and an overbearing, but comical, superior. It would then fast forward to Gli eroi di Hogan (1965) with similar comical mix-ups.
Sam is seated in an old fashioned electric chair, which was used to execute prisoners in earlier times.
Bugs breaks the fourth wall just before he admits to being the stoolie (stool pigeon).
Just about every gangster movie element is used in this humorous short.
