This was Disney's first cartoon in CinemaScope. It was produced to accompany Disney's first CinemaScope feature 20.000 leghe sotto i mari (1954).
Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore breaks the 4th wall in this cartoon when he tells the crowd, "Spread out there, folks; this is CinemaScope." The pan-and-scan version of the short instead has his line redubbed as "Spread out there, folks; this is a big canyon.", since the original line wouldn't make sense in a non-widescreen format.
This has sometimes been incorrectly identified as a parody of Disney's CinemaScope musical short Gran Canyon (1958). This cartoon preceded that short by four years.
The animation of rock formations collapsing during the canyon's destruction was re-used from La Leggenda Della Roccia Del Coyote (1945).
This short is available as a bonus on the Walt Disney Home Entertainment 2 disc DVD edition of 20.000 leghe sotto i mari (1954).
