According to contemporary articles in The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Taylor was to direct and Clark Gable was to play the male lead in this picture.
This film was a success at the box office, earning MGM a profit of $139,000 (about $3M in 2024) according to studio records.
Of special note, at about 25 minutes into the film is a shot of a rare pre-war diesel-electric locomotive - a Union Pacific EMC E2, built in 1937. It was one of only two E2 A-B-B sets ever produced. This is probably the "City of Los Angeles" set (LA-1, LA-2, LA-3) that ran the Chicago to Los Angeles route.
This film was first telecast in Los Angeles Monday 15 April 1957 on KTTV (Channel 11), followed by Philadelphia 28 April 1957 on WFIL (Channel 6), by New Haven CT 4 May 1957 on WNHC (Channel 8), by both Seattle and Altoona PA 11 May 1957 on KING (Channel 5) and on WFBG (Channel 10), by Chicago 14 May 1957 on WBBM (Channel 2), by Cincinnati 29 May 1957 on WXIX (Channel 19) (Newport KY), by Minneapolis 2 June 1957 on KMGM (Channel 9), by Portland OR 10 June 1957 on KGW (Channel 8), by Miami 12 June 1957 on WCKT (Channel 7), by Norfolk VA 28 August 1958 on WTAR (Channel 3), by New York City 10 October 1957 on WCBS (Channel 2) and by San Francisco 17 January 1958 on KGO (Channel 7).
