The film is accurate in its depiction of British university life at the start of the 1950s when many students were ex-servicemen and so the male student population was typically much older than would be the case as of the time of viewing (2025). Some students, including lead character Sheltie, are even shown occasionally in military uniform. As such, there is no reason to criticize this film for lack of believability, and its depiction of student life, the communal songs and somewhat conservative entertainment culture of the time stands as a useful social history record.
