This film marked the screen debut of Jane Greer, who was billed onscreen under her real name, Bettejane Greer. She played the role of "Helen Carter".

One of two wartime murder/mysteries starring Tom Conway in which he is aided by a female taxicab driver (due to the "man"-power shortage of WWII). Coincidentally, Emory Parnell and Jean Brooks also appear in both films. The other is The Falcon in Hollywood (1944).

This film is based on the novel Two O'Clock Courage by Gelett Burgess (Indianapolis, 1934). It is a remake of the RKO film Two in the Dark (1936), starring Walter Abel and Margot Grahame and directed by Benjamin Stoloff.

This film was Anthony Mann's first directorial assignment at RKO. He made this film and the musical Canta quando torni a casa (1945) in his brief time at RKO before returning to more familiar ground at Republic Studios. The director would soon go on to make Strange Impersonation (1946).

Final film role of Roland Drew playing the role of "Steve Maitland".
