The final gag, in which the boys' truck slams into the house, was a misfire. The script called for the truck to drive all the way through the house, but the carpenters had not built the house to property man Thomas Benton Roberts' specifications, so the truck was unable to penetrate it completely. Rather than rebuild the house for one gag, the cast and crew chose to keep the end gag as filmed.
According to the script with the house finished the owner pays Ollie for the work. Stan realises that he left his hat on the roof and climbs up to get it and as he does so the house starts to collapse and the owner takes his money back. In the film the collapse is caused by a cartoon bird landing on the chimney.
A sequence that was lost had Ollie knocking a nail into a wall and hanging his coat on it. On the other side of the wall Stan tears his coat on the protruding point of the nail :& knocks it back in. Ollie then wonders why his coat is on the floor & knocks the nail back in then goes next door to see if Stan had anything to do with it only Stan has gone out through another door.
As usual the film was substantially different to the script which started with the nearby sanatorium patients going even nuttier due to the noise from the nearby construction site.
