Right after entering the woods all characters but Cebolinha lost their shoes. This is a reference to the comics, where all of them wear no shoes, except for Cebolinha.

In the comics, Cebolinha and Cascão are constantly bullying Monica due to her large frontal teeth. The actress who performs Monica had to place a fake pair of teeth to increase similarity with the original character.

Some other characters appears as Easter eggs during the movie. One of them is a green plush dinosaur doll that can be briefly seen in a toy chest, at Monica's room, during a scene. That's Horácio, a peaceful tyrannosaur from the original comics.

This is the first live action adaptation of comics book by Mauricio de Sousa. In theaters, the characters have appeared before in four animated movies: As Aventuras da Turma da Mônica (1982), A Turma da Mônica em A Princesa e o Robô (1983), Turma da Mônica em Cine Gibi: O Filme (2004) and Turma da Mônica em Uma Aventura no Tempo (2007).

Based on the award-winning graphic novel of same name, rather then the original Monica comics. The darker tones of the story were, however, lightened for the movie, which made it more similar to the mainstream Monica comic books.
