The early scene in which Elias is rescued and questioned by an officer is an obvious homage to the science fiction horror classic Aliens - Scontro finale (1986). In "Aliens," the little girl Newt is the only survivor of the monster attack. Both children are wretched and silent. Newt has a doll and Elias has a teddy bear. Newt sits on a table facing the viewer's left, while Lt. Gorman faces the viewer's right. Elias also sits on a table in the same position, facing the viewer's left, while being questioned by Officer Naomi, who faces the viewer's right. Gorman asks that Newt tell them what happened, and Naomi asks Elias the same thing. Ripley gives Newt some hot chocolate, Naomi offers Elias some hot chocolate. Both children begin to tell their story when asked about their family.
