Recensioni in evidenza
Gemma Chan and Carla Juri had once been very close friends, but have drifted apart. Now Miss Juri is burying her much older husband, and sees Mss Chan, who vanishes. When she reappears, they renew their friendship in a tentative manner, and Miss Juri asks Miss Chan to help kill her husband.
The second of three movies based on Håkan Nesser's short story collection is not as intricately plotted as the first, but it lives in the unspoken details, the expressions on peoples' faces, and the impeccably clean and detailed, upper class world these people live in, like an Éric Rohmer film. An air of anomie suffuses the movie, which tends to make it less compelling to me, but there's little doubt that director Daniel Alfredson accomplishes what he set out to do, which is to involve the audience by making them fill in the unspoken and unshown details.

This is not Two Strangers On A Train. Or is it? Maybe.
To me, Gemma Chan can do no wrong. And she was a great bad guy in this film. Her partner is Carla Juri - new to me. Juri was okay. She irritated the crap out of me when she played her younger self. As a college student she played it very in a very childish way. It was irritating.
This is the second film based on the Intrigo book by Nordic writer Håkan Nesser. IMHO - he does not write very likable characters. Out of two movies, there's been 2- Henny's brother and the waitress at the Intrigo bar. Håkan Nesser is a pet lover. Once again, cool critters are in the forefront.
I liked this film despite all the unlikable characters. (Loved the doge!) I am a Nordic noir fan, so that might have something to do with it.
It is pure entertainment.

But the same idea. There's a murder plan and a 10 year backstory. Interesting diverse cast and generic Euro setting. Nordic noir kind of thing, was good for an evening.
They have a lot of nerve describing this as a "gripping thriller"!!! There is nothing gripping about this movie. There's nothing interesting about this movie. The characters are so dull. It was so bad that I couldn't even finish it. I didn't even care if Agnes was going to kill the guy. It was putting me to sleep.
The current rating for this movie is around 5 stars. Now, admittedly the plot is not very original - but these days what plot is? Who are all those people who gave this such middling marks, when I can only see two people who written reviews and they were much more positive. I loved how the story developed, if a little slow in the beginning. The characters were all well played right down to the children. They certainly got me involved and interested what was going to happen next
What's more, there were even a couple of surprises for me (plot twists). Oh well you can't please everybody. A pleasant story with hardly any swearing and no melodramatic scenes - just a will they, won't they question of murder.

- QuizIntrigo - Morte di uno scrittore (2018), this movie and Intrigo - L'omicidio Vera Kall (2019) comprise an anthology trilogy. As an anthology, the trilogy is tied together by story themes - hate, revenge and nemesis - rather than by characters. The only characters common to all three movies are the not seen opening narrator, portrayed by Karen Archer, who speaks about those themes, and Doris, portrayed by Tor Clark, a server at the titular "Intrigo", a café in the fictional town of Maardam where many of the characters meet. Michael Byrne portrays Keller in both "Author" and "Samaria", Ed Cooper Clarke portrays Thomas Neuman(n)-Hansen in both "Author" and "Agnes", and Cal MacAninch portrays Erich Neuman(n)-Hansen in both "Agnes" and "Samaria", and one can only assume, although it is not implicitly stated, that in all three cases the actor is indeed playing the same character in both movies. In addition, the assumed name of the translator in "Author" and the ad copywriter in "Samaria" are both Henry Martens.
