In the cemetery scene, there are two graves bearing the inscriptions TOBIAS and BOON. This is a reference to the creators of Mortal Kombat - John Tobias and Ed Boon.
The following Mortal Kombat characters appear in the film: Baraka, Bo' Rai Cho, Cyrax, Darrius, Drahmin, Ermac, Fujin, Hotaru, Hsu Hao, Jade, Jason Vorhees, Jax, Johnny Cage, Kabal, Kano, Kenshi, Kintaro, Kira, Kitana, Kotal Kahn, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Mileena, Mokap, Motaro, Nightwolf, Noob Saibot, Predator, Raiden, Rain, Reiko, Reptile, Scorpion, Sektor, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Sheeva, Sindel, Skarlet, Smoke, Sonya, Stryker, Sub-Zero, Tanya, and Tremor. In the ''Next Time on Kombat Kids'' segment, Shinnok, Erron Black, Quan Chi, and D'Vorah make an appearance. Goro appears after the credits. Onaga is referenced in form of a kite.
The final scene is a direct reference to Predator (1987), with Liu Kang and Nightwolf reenacting the roles of Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Billy (Sonny Landham).
Jason Vorhees can be seen about a dozen times, hidden in the background of some scenes. Also, his unearthed grave is visible in the cemetery.
Kung Lao has the highest amount of kills, but since most of them were accidental and/or indirect, the character with the highest amount of direct fatalities is Jax.
