1st June 2020: BBC confirmed the commission of a fifth series to air in 2021. The series will be filmed in a different location than the previous four due to confrontations with neighbours who lived on the street where the show was filmed.
On Wednesday, 17th August 2022, the British Broadcasting Corporation confirmed that the Scottish sitcom will return for a sixth series and a Christmas Special in late 2022, but that the character of Cathy would not appear, as Doon Mackichan was leaving the show. Siobhan Redmond joined the cast as a new series regular, Ann-Marie; the new girlfriend of Cathy's husband Colin. Doon Mackichan returned as Cathy for series seven, with Ann-Marie written out off-screen.
On Wednesday, 19th September 2018 the BBC confirmed that they have commissioned a fourth series of the Scottish sitcom. Filming on series four commences in Glasgow in October 2018 for broadcast on BBC Two in early 2019.
Colin's dad Willie celebrates his 78th birthday in one episode, but is said to have died at the age of 91 just two years later.
Having previously announced that the sitcom would return for a fifth series in 2021, on Thursday, 22nd October 2020 BBC Two announced that Two Doors Down will return for a Christmas Special in December 2020. They also announced that Graeme 'Grado' Stevely and Joy McAvoy, who play young couple Alan and Michelle, will not feature in the Christmas special but will be back for the fifth series, which is due to be filmed and shown in 2021.
