The fourth (and supposedly final) movie in the bloody slasher franchise Terrifier is officially in development and now director Damien Leone has revealed some more insights into what fans can expect from Art the Clown's next maniacal rampage.

Leone recently attended the Texas Frightmare Weekend (via Collider) and revealed that Art's backstory will be revealed "in the first 15 minutes" of Terrifier 4, while also promising that the fourth entry will not disappoint and be suitably "epic." Those are big promises to make, let's hope Terrifier 4 can live up to its lofty expectations.

Introduced in the horror short The 9th Circle back in 2008, Art the Clown has gone on to cement his place in the world of iconic slashers. The murderous clown has been played by two actors, starting with Mike Giannelli. David Howard Thornton took over the role in 2016, introducing Art to the masses in the first feature-length film Terrifier.

2024 was a big year for horror movies. Longlegs, A Quiet Place: Day One, Smile 2, and Nosferatu were all massive hits at the box office, but there was one movie that stood head and shoulders above the rest: Terrifier 3. Earning back 45 times its budget, Damien Leone's sequel managed to defy all expectations to become one of the biggest horror films of last year, and now, he's promising to give fans what they've been waiting for in Terrifier 4.

Appearing at Texas Frightmare Weekend earlier this month, Leone was asked to give fans a little taste of what they can expect in Terrifier 4 by YouTube content creator Cris Parker, who runs the popular 3C Films channel. We’ve seen Art the Clown do a whole lot of killing across three movies in Damien Leone’s gory Terrifier franchise, but we still know very little about the character and how he came to be the nightmare he is today. Leone had recently promised that the upcoming Terrifier 4, however, will “finally reveal Art’s origin,” and he’s doubling down on that promise this week.

In a quick video chat with popular content creator Cris Parker (3C Films over on YouTube), Leone reveals that Terrifier 4 will dish out Art’s backstory right at the beginning of the film.

The second King adaptation from Neon this year following Osgood Perkins’ blockbuster affair with The Monkey, The Life of Chuck explores the lighter side of King.

The early aughts launched a wave of horror remakes, but they’re especially known as an era full of American remakes of Japanese horror classics. One such adaptation is Takashi Shimizu‘s 2004 film, The Grudge, based on the Japanese film Ju-On: The Grudge, which Shimizu directed in 2002. It’s not often the original director is brought on for the American adaptation, so this is a fascinating film even for just that reason.

Neon has released the first full trailer for Mike Flanagan’s “The Life of Chuck” starring Tom Hiddleston. Based on Stephen King’s novella of the same name, “The Life of Chuck” is told in reverse, following Tom Hiddleston’s Chuck Krantz from his death and ending with his early childhood. Since bursting onto the genre scene, Damien Leone’s “Terrifier” series has become the most controversial success story in contemporary horror. To some, it’s a revolutionary triumph of low-budget filmmaking that boomed at the box office. To others, it’s an ultraviolent slasher about a killer clown with a fondness for sexual brutality and, in “Terrifier 3,” dead children.

To those paying attention, it’s both.

Now, an ongoing PR disaster for the filmmaker is dividing American audiences even further. On Monday, Leone posted on social media proclaiming that anyone “regardless of their political affiliations” was welcome in the “Terrifier” community so long as they’re “a decent human being.”

No matter what side of the political aisle you fall on, or whether you're an American or not, you have to admit that things have gotten rather interesting of late with the re-election of Donald Trump as the United States President. Trump creates a lot of passion among people. It seems you either love him or hate him, with no in-between. This has led to some controversy in the horror community from the Terrifier franchise of all places. After stars David Howard Thornton and Lauren Lavera divided fans by criticizing Trump, director Damien Leone attempted to calm things down by claiming that his films aren't political. While he may have meant well, his words have caused even more uproar, and his refusal to take a stand made him look weak. He knew what he was doing and just didn't want to get involved, so he took the easiest way out possible.

The "Terrifier" films aren't exactly known for being indirect. Creator Damien Leone has created a saga of unrelenting barbarity, with burgeoning horror icon Art the Clown slashing his way across a handful of short films and three features. Indeed, 2022's "Terrifier 2" proved too brutal for even some seasoned horror fans, with reports of walk-outs helping propel the film to relatively impressive box office success. In 2024, Leone continued his mission to depict the most upsettingly graphic kills possible with "Terrifier 3," itself a film that prompted walkouts simply due to a stomach-churning opening sequence.

This a film series that has seen Art the Clown sever a woman in half from the pelvis up, whip a victim with their own intestines, and absolutely decimate the body of a young girl in a scene that happens to represent Leone's favorite kill and which has become the high watermark for unadulterated gore in the "Terrifier" saga.

Terrifier director Damien Leone seems to be in hot water right now with some of the franchise's fan base, who are calling him out for refusing to "pick a side" in the current political climate. Recently, Maga enthusiasts have been attacking Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton on social media for his outspoken views on President Donald Trump and the current administration, which includes Elon Musk. Leone released a statement on Facebook (seen below) in which the director says he's "all for freedom of speech and expression" and didn't get into filmmaking to "become a politician or promote any political agendas."

Today is Damien Leone‘s birthday, but the Terrifier creator is celebrating with a present for fans.

“The script for Terrifier 4 is under way and it is shaping up to be the most epic, horrifying, thrilling, emotional and satisfying conclusion to the Terrifier saga,” he writes on Instagram. “I’ve personally never been so excited to see one of my own scripts translate to the screen like this one.”

He adds, “I will finally reveal Art’s origin in this entry.”

David Howard Thornton and Lauren Lavera are expected to return as iconic villain Art the Clown and final girl Sienna Shaw, respectively.

Leone launched Terrifier in 2016, followed by Terrifier 2 in 2022. Terrifier 3 opened at #1 at the box office last October, becoming the highest grossing unrated film of all time.

The third entry of Damien Leone’s ultraviolent, ultra gory, and ultra funny franchise, will arrive on the streaming-verse on Feb. 14, 2025. Some will buy roses, teddy bears, and balloons and head out on a date. Others will stay home and watch the latest adventures of Art the Clown, aka the vilest clown in modern horror.
