His maternal grandparents were Polish Jewish immigrants, who settled in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, later moving to Walnut Creek, California, U.S., where his mother was raised. Jonah was raised in the Jewish faith and has played several Jewish characters, such as in The Song of Names: La Musica Della Memoria (2019) and The Tattooist of Auschwitz (2024).
