Ike Barinholtz to Play Elon Musk in Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI Movie
Image
Ike Barinholtz has been cast as Elon Musk in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming OpenAI movie, Artificial, reports Matthew Belloni of Puck News.

Barinholtz, mostly recently known for his role as Sal Saperstein in The Studio, joins Anora breakout Yura Borisov, Andrew Garfield, and Monica Barbaro in the Amazon MGM Studios film, which was penned by Simon Rich.

Musk was an early investor in OpenAI before launching his rival company, xAI. As Belloni previously reported, he is a minor character in the movie, who mostly serves as “comic relief” in a few scenes where he is “more concerned with his (malfunctioning) driverless Tesla than the prospect of uncontrolled AI destroying the world.”

Drawing comparisons to The Social Network, Artificial is set in the tumultuous five-day period in 2023 when Sam Altman was fired, then rehired as the CEO of the company behind ChatGPT. According to Belloni, the film’s story revolves around...

Luca Guadagnino's OpenAI Movie 'Artificial' Casts Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk
Image
Luca Guadagnino's upcoming feature about the whirlwind rise of artificial intelligence just made an exciting addition. The film follows the real-life drama behind the firing of Sam Altman at OpenAI, as well as the tumultuous and dangerous state of the AI industry. The Challengers director has put together another impressive cast that will surely do the material justice, which grows increasingly relevant with each passing day.

Ike Barinholtz (The Studio) has been cast as Elon Musk in Guadagnino's Artificial, joining the likes of Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), and Yura Borisov (Anora). As previously reported, Musk's role in the script for the film serves primarily as comedic relief, so Barinholtz's casting, especially after his fantastic performance in The Studio, seems like a perfectly inspired choice by Guadagnino. However, Barinholtz is now tasked with playing one of the most controversial (and hated) people on the planet. So, no pressure,...

Luca Guadagnino's OpenAI Movie Features Elon Musk as "Comic Relief"
Image
Luca Guadagnino is a filmmaker who has never been one to shy away from projects that have a different kind of intensity to them, or dealt with what could be considered taboo topics. Whether it was the age-gap romance at the heart of Call Me By Your Name or the focus on cannibalism in Bones and All, the director has thrived in situations that some filmmakers would rather stay away from. Now, according to a new report, it seems that the filmmaker will be tackling a topic (and person) who has been at the center of plenty of sociopolitical controversy: Elon Musk.

Puck reporter and The Studio guest star Matt Belloni had a few details to share regarding the script for Guadagnino's next film, which is about OpenAI, aptly titled Artificial. According to new insider information, it seems that Elon Musk will be a character in the script, which also...

Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI Movie Will Depict Elon Musk: He’s ‘Not So Bad, as Far as Dictators Go,’ Says the Script — Report
Image
Simon Rich’s script for “Artificial,” the upcoming, Andrew Garfield-starring Luca Guadagnino feature that tackles the company OpenAI, has the chance to be something of an A.I. time bomb, if Matthew Belloni’s description in the Puck newsletter is anything to go by. Belloni read a draft of the script, and — though he’s careful to say he “won’t give away too much” — gives away enough to ruffle some Silicon Valley feathers… and possibly Elon Musk.

According to Belloni, the movie, set for 2026 and produced by Amazon of all places, depicts many of the heavy hitters in the A.I. world but focuses on Ilya Sutskever (to be played by “Anora” Oscar-nominee Yura Borisov), the engineer who co-founded OpenAI. Belloni writes that the character is “leveraged, marginalized, and ultimately betrayed by both his power-hungry friend Altman and the larger Silicon Valley community — with potentially disastrous consequences for all of humanity.

Sean Baker, the director of films like The Florida Project, Red Rocket, and recent Academy Award darling, Anora, is already planning his next film. His sweep at the Oscars surely made some heads turn and his schedule is probably packed, but don't expect him to make the jump towards the studio system. The director is planning to stay in the indie circles, and to prove his point, he has made a stinging remark. While talking about his next project, Baker simply said, "Don’t expect a Marvel film."

Baker probably doesn't mean ill will towards his colleagues and peers who have built their career in the studio system, and mainly focused on franchises. He stated that he prefers the radically different universe that is the production of independent movies. And he has a very good reason for this.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Baker appeared on the podcast It Happened in Hollywood,...
