DVD Review: Terra Nova – The Complete Series
Terra Nova: The Complete Series

Stars: Jason O’Mara, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott, Alana Mansour, Christine Adams, Allison Miller, Rod Hallett, Stephen Lang | Created by Kelly Marcel, Craig Silverstein

The year is 2149 and Earth is overdeveloped and overcrowded with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. With the world dying and the future of mankind in doubt, the only hope for survival is a rift in time that allows some of the population make “pilgrimages” to a different time stream, some 85 million years into Earth’s Cretaceous past, where man must co-exist with dinosaur…

Billed as “event television” on its debut in 2011, Terra Nova is a sci-fi epic from producer Steven Spielberg which, like the previous big-budget Spielberg/Amblin sci-fi show for network television, Earth 2, was sadly cancelled after only one season of 13 episodes – which ran mere four months from September 2011 to December 2011. The problem with the show,...

Review: Terra Nova
Any time Steven Spielberg comes to television, it’s always with something different. He honored the anthology series of his youth with Amazing Stories and lent his storytelling expertise to get ER launched, making that into a smash hit for NBC. So, when Fox heard of a series about humans and dinosaurs and Spielberg, it seemed like a no brainer. If anyone could get dinosaurs to work convincingly on the small screen, it was the director of Jurassic Park. What the network couldn’t count on was the full extent of Spielberg’s involvement and in time the series was placed under showrunner Brannon Braga’s control. Braga cut his teeth on Star Trek: The Next Generation and has gone on to do other genre fare, but he can’t seem to repeatedly sacrifice characterization in favor of conspiracy and that’s where Terra Nova fell off the rails.

Delayed...

Terra Nova has been Canceled by Fox: Shopped to New Network
Terra Nova Canceled. Fox Network has canceled the freshman sci-fi TV show series after its thirteen episode first season. I am not surprised by this at all. I lost interest after the series after the three episode after I realized the main characters were destined to get out of every jam they got into.

In addition the series plot holes were ridiculous. From the first episode: Dr. Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn) sneaks into a prison a metal hand laser. No one checked her? She was able to get that through metal detectors? Even if her husband Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara) cut his way out of his cell, then what? He is still in prison. The cells were idiotic looking and they just happened to let people freely pass things to one another. That was convenient.

One more thing on the laser front: if small, portable lasers are out in the public,...

Terra Nova: Cancelled; Season Two Still Possible?
The Terra Nova TV show has been officially cancelled by the Fox network. However, though you won't see dinosaurs back on the Fox schedule next season, there's still hope for a second season.

For those who came in late, Terra Nova's produced by Steven Spielberg and revolves around a time when our planet has become over-developed and overcrowded. Mankind's only chance for survival is to make use of a newly discovered fracture in time and try to colonize pre-historic Earth. The cast includes Jason O'Mara, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Allison Miller, Naomi Scott, Alana Mansour, Stephen Lang, Rod Hallett, and Christine Adams.

Terra Nova premiered last September with a pair of installments which attracted an average of a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.22 million total viewers. It was third in its timeslots but held viewers through the two hours. The third episode...

Fox Cancels Terra Nova
After just a single season, Fox's "Terra Nova" has been cancelled. The show, from executive producers Steven Spielberg, Peter Chernin, René Echevarria and Brannon Braga, followed an ordinary family, the Shannons, on a journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as part of an experiment to save mankind. It starred Stephen Lang, Jason O'Mara, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott and Alana Mansour. There is the possibility that a new network could step in and pick up the series, but, at the moment, the future (or, depending on how you look at it, the past) of the Shannon family looks grim.

Terra Nova: Should It Be Cancelled or Renewed for Season Two?

TV Review: Terra Nova 1.8, “Vs”
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

We get quite a bit of explaining in this episode. We learn what’s really going on with the Sixers, what the real agenda in 2149 is, what happened with Taylor and his son and what’s going on with the weird rock markings. Well, that’s assuming that the person who shared all this information with us isn’t an unreliable narrator, which would be an interesting twist, but not one that I expect a series like this to do.

Our episode opens with Boylan (Damien Garvey), being interrogated by Taylor (Stephen Lang), over the events that transpired last week. We see, yet again, that Terra Nova’s legal process is severely broken, as the man is being held without access to a lawyer, given borderline torture in the form of extremely loud noises that prevent him from sleeping, and being fed food with drugs in it.

We Irresponsibly Speculate on the Identity of Terra Nova’s Mole
If you follow us on Twitter, odds are fairly certain that you already know our feelings with regards last night’s fantastic episode of Terra Nova. What you may not know is that in response to last night’s tweet that went a little something like so — “Super solid episode of #TerraNova, although it would be nice if poor Allison Miller was given something, heck anything, to do.” — actress Allison Miller took it upon herself to respond, “@theTVaddict thanks – stick around for the next few ” And since it’s not exactly everyday that an actor goes out of their way to respond one of our 140 character gems, it suddenly dawned on us: Miller’s Skye is totally the Terra Nova mole that Commander Taylor has been so desperately searching for! But hey, don’t take our word for it, check out the irrefutable evidence we’ve compiled in our case against Skye,...

TV Review: Terra Nova 1.7, “Proof”
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

(special note: My DVR messed up last week and recorded an old episode of Top Gear instead of Terra Nova. I was finally able to watch it last night, and here’s the review!)

In this week’s episode, we learn that people enjoy fishing for huge fish from the top of high cliffs, hero worship isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, the Sixers have more tech than one might expect, and one of the main characters may well need to be classified as “too stupid to live”.

We start with the fishing, with Commander Taylor (Stephen Lang), and Jim (Jason O’Mara), firing bait with longbows. They then hook what looked like some sort of primitive marlin, though the CGI was too horrible to really judge.

On the way back to the colony, they stumble across an old fire. Taylor reasons that...

TV Review: Terra Nova 1.6, “Nightfall”
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

If you liked the romantic dialogue in Attack of the Clones, you’re in for a treat!

This week’s episode of Terra Nova continues the series’ trend of doing not very much with a premise that has a lot of potential. In this case they do it through no less than four plots.

The overall plot centers around a meteor that explodes over Terra Nova putting out an Emp that fuses all the microchips. If you’re thinking to yourself that it seems unlikely we’d still be using what appear to be silicon microchips 130+ years into the future, you’re not alone. This pulse not only knocks out power, but also knocks out all the weapons, which I would have thought would be shielded against Emp, especially since one of the characters mentions that Emp had been used as a weapon before.

\Anyhow, our...

‘Terra Nova’ Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Nightfall
This week’s episode of Terra Nova, “Nightfall” may have provided for a more engaging hour of television than many on the fence about the series anticipated as a meteor hits the land and a sonic wave sends Terra Nova into complete reliance on their own talents, technology not included. But it still is not enough to want to stay tuned in for a possible season two. In a time when there is so little technology outside of what was brought from the future, it was interesting to see just how well the citizens coped without their guns, their protection as well as their resources for work among other things. As the meteor heads to the land, Elisabeth (Shelley Conn) is preparing for a surgery (with Skye which is incredibly random and odd considering her lack of experience) to take out a large parasite from a young boy. Jim (Jason...

Terra Nova Review: When The Lights Go Out
Although it is still not living up to preseason expectations, at least Terra Nova reverted back to the type of show I though it would be, and the sort of show it has the best chance of excelling at, in "Nightfall."

These people are living in a world that is both hundreds of years in the future and millions of years in the past. It is a perfect opportunity to keep the audience intrigued by mysterious storylines. That's something it has failed to capitalize on since the pilot, but did a much better job here.

The meteor shutting off all power at Terra Nova became a nice opportunity for Mira and the Sixers to go looking for the box that Taylor and company could not open. Because they found it so easily after distracting the Commander with a giant dino, it was once again clear that Mira has someone on the inside.

TV Review: Terra Nova 1.5, “Bylaw”
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

The jolly folk at Terra Nova get to experience their first murder this week, when a man is killed by a dinosaur that was locked in a room he opened. Seems like a bit of an odd way to off someone, but ok.

Once Jim (Jason O’Mara), puzzles out that there’s murder afoot, his job is to track down who killed the man in question. It’s interesting seeing him do his police work. It’s just too bad that he does it in a way that makes him look like a real idiot.

First he figures out that the victim’s ID tag is missing. He, the commander (Stephen Lang), and his dogsbody, Washington, head out to find it. This leads to some rather bad dinosaur CGI, though it does serve to showcase the Australian terrain rather nicely. Filming in Oz may have...
