Hallmark’s canceled western “Ride,” starring Nancy Travis (“Last Man Standing”) is galluping to The CW, which picked up repeats of the show to air next month. The 10-episode series will launch on Monday, January 22 at 8 p.m., paired with “Wild Cards” at 9 p.m.

“Ride” is described as “a multigenerational family drama that follows the lives of the McMurrays, a tight-knit family that embarks on a journey of self-discovery on the heels of a tragic loss as they uncover a twisted web of secrets that threatens to tear the family and their Colorado town apart.” Beau Mirchoff, Tiera Skovbye, Sara Garcia, Jake Foy and Tyler Jacob Moore also star.

The network announced today that it picked up the 10-episode first season of the Yellowstone-like drama that starred Nancy Travis (Last Man Standing). The series, which follows a bucolic but cash-strapped ranch that’s operated by a widowed parent (Travis) who loses a beloved family member, was recently canceled by Hallmark.

The CW will begin airing the series on Monday, January 22, followed by an encore episode of the new original scripted series Wild Cards.

The network has no plans to order a second season of Ride, at least for now.

Travis plays matriarch Isabel Murray; the drama also stars Beau Mirchoff (Good Trouble), Jake Foy (Designated Survivor) and Marcus Rosner (Arrow) as her sons Cash, Tuff and Austin. Tiera Skovbye plays Austin’s wife, Missy. The first season launched in March on Hallmark.

Freeform has cancelled its last two remaining scripted series, Good Trouble and Cruel Summer, TVLine has confirmed.

The Fosters spinoff Good Trouble will conclude with the back half of its fifth season (premiering Tuesday, Jan. 2), while the anthology series Cruel Summer wrapped up its second (and now final) season on July 31. With the axing of the animated comedy Praise Petey in November and grown-ish slated to air its final episodes in 2024, that leaves the future of Freeform’s scripted slate up in the air.

Freeform will not be moving forward with new seasons of “Cruel Summer” and “Good Trouble,” Variety has confirmed.

An anthology series, Season 2 of of “Cruel Summer” followed the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. “Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward,” reads the official description.

After making waves with its explosive first season (which averaged multiplatform+35 viewership of 6.8 million viewers per episode) that quickly became the network’s most-watched series ever, Freeform followed up the performance with a fast Season 2 renewal in 2021 — a move Freeform president Tara Duncan called an “easy decision” at the time.

Sherri Cooper-Landsman served as showrunner on the new drama about a rodeo dynasty with Rebecca Boss and Chris Masi (Our Kind of People). It was shot in Canada.

Deadline asked Cooper-Landsman about the drama’s inevitable comparisons to Yellowstone.

“Honestly, I never even thought about it,” she told us. “All I knew when I read it was that I could be a good contributor because this was just a great family.

It's been an interesting year for Hallmark with the premieres of The Way Home and Ride and countless feel-good movies.

Despite initially touting Ride as a success story, the cabler has quietly opted to part ways with the rodeo family drama.

Ride tells the story of a multigenerational family ensemble and follows the lives of the McMurrays, part of a rodeo dynasty going back a generation, as they struggle to keep their beloved ranch afloat.

"After a tragic loss, each character embarks on an empowering journey of transformation and self-discovery while also uncovering a twisted web of secrets, threatening to tear the family and their small Colorado town apart at the seams," Hallmark teased in anticipation of the series debut.  

Ride also had a decent cast that came from TV Fanatic fan-favorite series, so there was every indication it would be a success story.

Hallmark Channel‘s neo-Western drama Ride wrapped up its first season on Sunday (May 28) night with a kiss and a goodbye, but is it also a goodbye for the series itself? Speaking to TVLine, Beau Mirchoff, who plays Cash McMurray in the series, opened up about a potential second season. “I don’t know. I don’t want to jinx anything, but I mean, fans seem to love it, the ratings are pretty good,” he said. Ride‘s first season averaged 1.039 million viewers across its first season, with a 0.08 in the 18-49 key demo. Fan response to the series has been mixed, with the show currently holding a 62% audience score on film and TV review site Rotten Tomatoes. However, television renewals are up in the air right now due to the ongoing writers’ strike. But Mirchoff remained hopeful about a Season 2, stating, “More people are discovering it; that’s really cool.

Production on Freeform’s Good Trouble fifth season was halted for the day as a result of WGA picketing.

Deadline understands that the series was shooting on location Agua Dulce, north of Los Angeles, when IATSE and Teamsters refused to cross the picket line. It was an early-morning start, and we hear that picketing began around 4 a.m. and the set was closed around 9:30 a.m.

It comes on the eighth day of the WGA strike, which has seen thousands of writers take to the streets of Hollywood and New York in protest to the studios’ offer.

A crew of 8 WGA picketers spoke to multiple drivers who approached the line for information and then later formed a large line with their vehicles in solidarity. The situation on site was peaceful and there was overwhelming support from the WGA’s sister unions, sources tell Deadline. No teamster trucks crossed the line while picketing was ongoing.
