I’m not too cool for school — I love TV and I love Netflix. The company almost single-handedly changed how we watch TV, and while there’s been a bit of industry pain in the process, for a guy like me who loves stories, there are more quality TV shows out there than ever before. And Netflix has a bunch of them, from dark thrillers to wild rom-coms to big final seasons of culturally relevant shows. Wondering what they are? Wonder no more. Here’s my personal ranking of the seven best shows streaming on Netflix right now.

The 44-year-old Oscar-winning actress left a brownstone as she filmed scenes for her upcoming movie Good Sex on Tuesday afternoon (August 12) in New York City.

For her time on set, Natalie sported a T-shirt and red pants.

Mark Ruffalo was also seen filming scenes outside of the brownstone.

Written and directed by Lena Dunham, Good Sex “centers on a pragmatic couples therapist named Ally (Portman), who after spending a decade in a failed relationship and now turning 40, reluctantly dips her toe back into the New York dating scene. But, per Netflix’s logline, Ally gets more than she bargained for when she meets two men, one in his twenties and one in his fifties, who show her there is no set formula for good sex.”

“And Just Like That…” it’s over with Season 3. I don’t think there’s any controversy in saying the show isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it did surprise my wife and me. I thought it did a pretty great job showing what life, friendship, and identity shifts look like in your fifties. Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte are all dealing with huge changes — breakups, reinvention, parenting teenagers, even just figuring out how to dress in a world that’s moved on. Netflix has a reputation for canceling a lot of shows, but that's not exactly a fair representation of how the streamer does business. Sure, Netflix cancels a lot of shows, but lately, the streamer has handed out way, way more renewals than cancellations. Still, there are more than a few Netflix shows waiting to be renewed or canceled.

I've shared a list of five Netflix shows still on the chopping block while Netflix makes the decision to renew or cancel them. I also added some predictions. Spoiler alert: things are looking good for most of the shows on the list!

John Malkovich has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s “Prodigies.”

Malkovich will guest star in the upcoming romantic comedy series, which stars Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri as two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children. Malkovich reunites with Edebiri after the pair starred in A24’s “Opus,” where Malkovich played ’90s pop superstar Alfred Moretti and Edebiri played journalist Ariel Ecton.

In addition to Sharpe and Edebiri, Malkovich joins “Prodigies” cast members Andrene Ward-Hammond, Yumi Asō, Tobias Menzies, Rina Sawayama, Sophia Di Martino, Reece Shearsmith, Nabhaan Rizwan, Meera Syal and Lolly Adefope.

Exclusive: Sources are telling us that Apple TV+ is in early development on an untitled series exploring female identity and modern motherhood written and executive produced by Emily Ratajkowski and author Stephanie Danler with Lena Dunham executive producing under her Good Thing Going label.

Ratajkowski is attached to star and the project reps her screenwriting debut following her New York Times best-selling debut book My Body. A24, which is behind HBO’s Euphoria, is serving as the studio. A24 also made the Sophia Coppola-directed movie On the Rocks starring Bill Murray and Rashia Jones with AppleTV+.

The project also reps a reteam between Ratajkowski and Dunham, who are coming off of the Netflix series Too Much. Dunham co-created that show which follows New York workaholic Jessica who moves to London after a break-up, planning to be alone, but falls for Felix. Ratajkowski plays Wendy Jones on Too Much.

Lena Dunham says her fixation on the “Scandoval” cheating scandal that rocked Vanderpump Rules pushed her to pitch a dramatic “mini-movie” of the reunion episode to Bravo host Andy Cohen during the 2023 writers strike, The Independent reports.

Appearing on the Shut Up Evan podcast, the writer-director recalled becoming “so obsessed” with the fallout that she treated the reality-tv transcript “like Shakespeare” and admits she “abused” Cohen’s phone number to lobby for the project. The strike hiatus, she argued, presented a window to “turn chaos into art” while most scripted sets were dark.

Dunham’s casting wish-list paired Andrew Scott with Jennifer Lawrence—Scott as the embattled bar owner Tom Sandoval and Lawrence as Ariana Madix, whose nine-year relationship collapsed when Sandoval’s affair with Rachel Leviss became public.

She imagined prestigious actors delivering the reunion’s expletive-laced dialogue “with all the passion and virtuosity of theatre,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

For Lena Dunham, there’s no such thing as “too much” reality TV. The beloved filmmaker even wanted to adapt the viral “Vanderpump Rules” for the big screen, especially after the “Scandoval” of it all.

“Vanderpump Rules” Season 10 revealed the explosive affair between co-stars Tom Sandoval and Rachel Leviss; Sandoval’s ex Ariana Madix confronted both cast members during the Season 10 reunion in 2023. The episode was Emmy-nominated.

While the scandal shocked audiences at the time, Dunham was looking to add a high(er)brow twist with the help of her fellow Bravo bingers, Andrew Scott and Jennifer Lawrence.

“We should basically create like a mini movie in which actors treat this as canon and get up and perform it with all the passion and virtuosity of Shakespeare,” Dunham said during the “Shut Up Evan” podcast. “I went so far as to abuse Andy Cohen‘s contact information to pitch him the idea.

Lena Dunham is sharing an idea she had for a project that never came to light.

According to the 39-year-old Too Much creator, she wanted to make a “really serious” production of Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval‘s breakup. The split, which played out at a dramatic Vanderpump Rules reunion, was dubbed “Scandoval” by fans.

Although Vanderpump Rules is preparing to move on from ‘Scandoval‘ with its rebooted Season 12, Lena Dunham isn’t quite ready to let go.

The project from Akiva Goldsman, Jordan Cahan and Greg Lessans is loosely based on the 1992 movie starring John Ritter and Pam Dawber. The series would follow Rannells and Gad as they find themselves trapped on the wrong side of the screen and forced to navigate their way through TV’s most binge-worthy obsessions.

Netflix's Too Much has claimed a spot on the platform's Top 10 TV shows, despite having left critics and audiences divided. The comedy series, created by Lena Dunham and Luis Felber, was released on Netflix on July 10th, 2025. It stars Megan Stalter as Jessica, a hard-working New Yorker who travels to London to get some alone time after a breakup, but meets Indie artist Felix (Will Sharpe) instead.

Too Much has officially snuck its way onto Netflix's global Top 10 TV shows, claiming the #10 spot for the period of July 14th to July 20th. It's currently the only adult comedy on the list, but the raunchy series has critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes torn. While critics have collectively granted Too Much an 82% score, the audience score sits at only 57%.

What Too Much's Netflix Top 10 Spot & Rt Scores Mean For The Rom-Com Series Even Positive Reviews For Too Much Are Mixed...

Netflix audiences were enthralled by the mysterious death of a woman in Yosemite National Park in Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith’s Untamed last week.

The series debuted on July 17 and quickly racked up 24.6M views, putting it at No. 1 on the English-language TV list. That’s quite a strong start — and a rejuvenation of that chart, which was looking a little lackluster last week. This also marks the second No. 1 debut for Mark L. Smith this year, after American Primeval hit the top spot in January.

Once again, true crime was also top of mind for Netflix viewers. Amy Bradley Is Missing took second place, amassing 12.2M views from July 14 to 20.

The Sandman Season 2 also picked up another 3.3M views, good enough for third place. As Deadline previously reported, the series took a bit of a viewership hit from the first season, which finished its second week of availability with around 11.5M views.

Eric Bana’s “Untamed” debuted to an impressive audience in its opening weekend, climbing to the top of Netflix’s most-watched TV list.

After premiering on Thursday, July 17, “Untamed” tallied up 24.6 million views on Netflix in its first four days on the streamer, leading the top 10 list of the week’s most-watched English-language TV shows for the week of July 14. “Untamed” marks the second No. 1 debut this year for co-creator Mark L. Smith after “American Primeval” debuted atop the list in January.

Viewership for “Untamed” more than doubled that of “Amy Bradley Is Missing,” which took the No. 2 slot on the list with 12.2 million views. After wrapping production for the day on her new movie Good Sex, Natalie Portman ran into Taylor Swift‘s younger brother Austin Swift while out on a walk on Monday afternoon (July 21) in NYC.

The two were seen chatting and laughing with a group of friends before continuing on with their walks.

Natalie, 44, was seen wearing a black T-shirt and denim shorts while Austin, 33, sported a maroon plaid shirt and black pants.

The Oscar-winning actress has been in NYC for the past few weeks filming the new Netflix rom-com.

Sindy, the popular British doll that emerged from Pedigree Dolls & Toys in the 1960s as a rival to America’s iconic Barbie, may soon be singing her way onto the big-screen.

A2R2 Productions — the production company launched last fall by actor Archie Renaux and manager-producer Arjun Rose — has acquired rights to adapt Sindy and they’ve set plans for a “bold, feel-good live-action musical that mixes heart, humor and high fashion,” the team confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rose, who dabbled in music with a live performance series called Laughing Boy that featured the likes of Ed Sheeran and Jessie J, will produce along with Renaux. The British talent was last seen on the big screen in Alien: Romulus. Daniel Hulme, a leader in the tech and artificial intelligence space who currently serves as chief AI officer at Wpp, joins the team as executive producer.

First, the good news about this year’s Emmy nominees: Queer, Black, Asian and Latino performers made history. The less good news: Overall representation is down for people of color, especially for folks of Asian and indigenous descent.

Of the 92 total performers nominated in the acting categories, 24 of them are people of color, a dip from 2024, when Asian, Latino and Black actors made significant strides, with 30 nominees.

This year, members of the LGBTQ community did well across all categories. It's once again Emmy Awards season with the 2025 nominations being announced on Tuesday, July 15. Even though FX on Hulu's smash-hit and award-winning series The Bear just released its fourth season last month, the comedy-drama series also earned 13 nominations for last year's third season. The new nods add to the show's record-setting wins in 2024, but one of the show's talented star's just made some Emmy nominations history of their own with an amazing achievement.

The Bear star Ayo Edebiri landed her third consecutive Emmy nomination for her acting performance. After winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the first season, Edebiri has now been nominated in the Lead Actress category for seasons 2 and 3.
