I’m not too cool for school — I love TV and I love Netflix. The company almost single-handedly changed how we watch TV, and while there’s been a bit of industry pain in the process, for a guy like me who loves stories, there are more quality TV shows out there than ever before. And Netflix has a bunch of them, from dark thrillers to wild rom-coms to big final seasons of culturally relevant shows. Wondering what they are? Wonder no more. Natalie Portman is hard at work on her new Netflix movie!
The 44-year-old Oscar-winning actress left a brownstone as she filmed scenes for her upcoming movie Good Sex on Tuesday afternoon (August 12) in New York City.
For her time on set, Natalie sported a T-shirt and red pants.
Mark Ruffalo was also seen filming scenes outside of the brownstone.
Written and directed by Lena Dunham, Good Sex “centers on a pragmatic couples therapist named Ally (Portman), who after spending a decade in a failed relationship and now turning 40, reluctantly dips her toe back into the New York dating scene. But, per Netflix’s logline, Ally gets more than she bargained for when she meets two men, one in his twenties and one in his fifties, who show her there is no set formula for good sex.”

Keep the friendship, romance, and drama going with these perfect follow-ups.
“And Just Like That…” it’s over with Season 3. I don’t think there’s any controversy in saying the show isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it did surprise my wife and me. I thought it did a pretty great job showing what life, friendship, and identity shifts look like in your fifties. Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte are all dealing with huge changes — breakups, reinvention, parenting teenagers, even just figuring out how to dress in a world that’s moved on. And while the series just wrapped with the Season 3 finale on Thursday, Aug. 14 (the third season will be its last), there are a few other shows that scratch the itch this show did. So, if you’re wondering what to watch next, here are a few options.

Netflix has a reputation for canceling a lot of shows, but that's not exactly a fair representation of how the streamer does business. Sure, Netflix cancels a lot of shows, but lately, the streamer has handed out way, way more renewals than cancellations. Still, there are more than a few Netflix shows waiting to be renewed or canceled.
I've shared a list of five Netflix shows still on the chopping block while Netflix makes the decision to renew or cancel them. I also added some predictions. Spoiler alert: things are looking good for most of the shows on the list!
Let's get the list started with one of the most popular Netflix shows of the summer of 2025, The Waterfront!

John Malkovich has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s “Prodigies.”
Malkovich will guest star in the upcoming romantic comedy series, which stars Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri as two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children. Malkovich reunites with Edebiri after the pair starred in A24’s “Opus,” where Malkovich played ’90s pop superstar Alfred Moretti and Edebiri played journalist Ariel Ecton.
In addition to Sharpe and Edebiri, Malkovich joins “Prodigies” cast members Andrene Ward-Hammond, Yumi Asō, Tobias Menzies, Rina Sawayama, Sophia Di Martino, Reece Shearsmith, Nabhaan Rizwan, Meera Syal and Lolly Adefope.
Billed as an unusual take on a classic romantic comedy, “Prodigies” follows Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) in their early 30s as they start to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood, and, inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship,...

Exclusive: Sources are telling us that Apple TV+ is in early development on an untitled series exploring female identity and modern motherhood written and executive produced by Emily Ratajkowski and author Stephanie Danler with Lena Dunham executive producing under her Good Thing Going label.
Ratajkowski is attached to star and the project reps her screenwriting debut following her New York Times best-selling debut book My Body. A24, which is behind HBO’s Euphoria, is serving as the studio. A24 also made the Sophia Coppola-directed movie On the Rocks starring Bill Murray and Rashia Jones with AppleTV+.
The project also reps a reteam between Ratajkowski and Dunham, who are coming off of the Netflix series Too Much. Dunham co-created that show which follows New York workaholic Jessica who moves to London after a break-up, planning to be alone, but falls for Felix. Ratajkowski plays Wendy Jones on Too Much.

Lena Dunham says her fixation on the “Scandoval” cheating scandal that rocked Vanderpump Rules pushed her to pitch a dramatic “mini-movie” of the reunion episode to Bravo host Andy Cohen during the 2023 writers strike, The Independent reports.
Appearing on the Shut Up Evan podcast, the writer-director recalled becoming “so obsessed” with the fallout that she treated the reality-tv transcript “like Shakespeare” and admits she “abused” Cohen’s phone number to lobby for the project. The strike hiatus, she argued, presented a window to “turn chaos into art” while most scripted sets were dark.
Dunham’s casting wish-list paired Andrew Scott with Jennifer Lawrence—Scott as the embattled bar owner Tom Sandoval and Lawrence as Ariana Madix, whose nine-year relationship collapsed when Sandoval’s affair with Rachel Leviss became public.
She imagined prestigious actors delivering the reunion’s expletive-laced dialogue “with all the passion and virtuosity of theatre,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

For Lena Dunham, there’s no such thing as “too much” reality TV. The beloved filmmaker even wanted to adapt the viral “Vanderpump Rules” for the big screen, especially after the “Scandoval” of it all.
“Vanderpump Rules” Season 10 revealed the explosive affair between co-stars Tom Sandoval and Rachel Leviss; Sandoval’s ex Ariana Madix confronted both cast members during the Season 10 reunion in 2023. The episode was Emmy-nominated.
While the scandal shocked audiences at the time, Dunham was looking to add a high(er)brow twist with the help of her fellow Bravo bingers, Andrew Scott and Jennifer Lawrence.
“We should basically create like a mini movie in which actors treat this as canon and get up and perform it with all the passion and virtuosity of Shakespeare,” Dunham said during the “Shut Up Evan” podcast. “I went so far as to abuse Andy Cohen‘s contact information to pitch him the idea.

Lena Dunham is sharing an idea she had for a project that never came to light.
According to the 39-year-old Too Much creator, she wanted to make a “really serious” production of Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval‘s breakup. The split, which played out at a dramatic Vanderpump Rules reunion, was dubbed “Scandoval” by fans.
Lena was a guest on Evan Ross Katz‘s Shut Up Evan podcast where she talked about her ideas for the movie.

Lena Dunham once pitched a “Scandoval” movie to Andy Cohen, with Andrew Scott and Jennifer Lawrence starring as Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval from Vanderpump Rules. On the July 29 episode of the Shut Up Evan Podcast, the Girls star, 39, shared her wild idea with host Evan Ross Katz. Dunham recounted her affinity with reality TV during the SAG-AFTRA writers’ strike during their chat, explaining she was particularly fond of Vanderpump Rules. “I literally became so obsessed that I thought—what can we do while the writers’ strike is down?'” Dunham told Katz. “We should do a reenactment of the reunion in which Ariana confronts Tom and then takes Rachel/Raquel [Leviss] to town with trained actors.” The Too Much creator continued, “We should basically create like a mini movie in which actors treat this as canon and get up and perform with all the passion and virtuosity of Shakespeare.

An American lives out her British dream in an uninspired yet competently assembled trifle from The Inbetweeners creator Iain Morris
Call it the Bridgerton effect, which itself was arguably the result of The Crown effect, but the Netflix algorithm is currently aimed toward the UK with moonier eyes than usual. If you’re still not over Lena Dunham’s latest, these picks will ease the heartbreak.
Rom-coms are my go-to genre — always have been. There’s just something about falling in love with a show at the same time the characters are falling for each other. And when it ends? Total heartbreak. That’s the vibe with “Too Much,” Lena Dunham’s new series about a heartbroken American and a low-key London musician who find themselves tangled in a love story neither of them planned for. It’s quiet, honest, and a little awkward (in the best way), with the kind of emotional pull that sneaks up on you. So if that ending left you feeling adrift, here are a few more shows that might just fill the gap and get you back in love.

Angie Han Once upon a time, when broadcast ruled the roost, summer was a fallow time for TV. The traditional season would end in the spring, to start up again in the fall; it wasn’t that there were no new shows, but they’d be exceptions in a sea of reruns. Of course, that’s all changed in the past couple of decades, with cable and streaming moving the industry to year-round programming. Now there’s always something fresh to watch, whether it’s sweater or flip-flop weather.
Or … is there?
Technically, yes, we still got hundreds of hours of new TV the past few months: starry launches like Apple TV+’s Murderbot and Netflix’s Sirens and Too Much; new seasons of recent hits like Netflix’s Squid Game, Peacock’s Poker Face and FX/Hulu’s The Bear; revivals of older smashes like Showtime’s Dexter (in...

Natalie Portman opened 2025 by starring opposite John Krasinski in Fountain of Youth, the action thriller from Guy Ritchie. Now, only a few months later, one of her next projects just took a major step forward. Netflix has officially confirmed that Good Sex, the romantic comedy in which Portland stars alongside Tucker Pillsbury, aka Role Model, has officially begun production. This comes after Role Model brought Portman out onto the stage last night during his show at Madison Square Garden while he was playing “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out.” Role Model has brought out other stars in the past during the same performance, such as Renée Rapp, Dylan Minnette, and Bowen Yang. Good Sex also stars MCU star Mark Ruffalo, Parks & Rec alum Rashida Jones, rom-com icon Meg Ryan, and even Tramell Tillman, who has made a name for himself thanks to his role in Severance.

Last week on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Steve Buscemi — from… well, everything — revealed that long before he was famous, he often found himself in rooms with casting agents and directors unable to connect at all.
“I was always hot and cold,” Buscemi explained. “I never knew if I should wing it, cause sometimes I’d be good if I went in the room and I didn’t really prepare. And then, the next time I’d do it, I would fail.”
And Buscemi has auditioned for the best of the best — including “Rain Man” filmmaker Barry Levinson when he was working on the 1987 movie “Tin Men.” He decided he had to “really prepare” for the meeting. “And I studied the sides, the script, and went in there and did my reading… did my audition, and he looked at me and went, ‘That was really good. This chaotic romantic dramedy lives up to its title in the best way. Lena Dunham and Megan Stalter’s team-up feels like ‘Frances Ha’ on Instagram Live: raw, insufferable, and kind of genius. At the center of Lena Dunham’s sharp, sugar-sad 2025 Netflix series ‘Too Much’ is Megan Stalter’s Jessica Salmon, a woman who, in the first episode, breaks into her ex-boyfriend’s apartment using a gnome to break the window. Throughout the series, Jessica copes with her recent breakup with Zev (played by ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ alum Michael Zegen) by stalking his new girlfriend, Wendy Jones (Emily Ratajkowski), on Instagram. After a move to London, fueled by her obsession with British pastoral love stories from the Jane Austen ilk, she meets a British rock star, Felix (played by the ever-charming Will Sharpe), in a pub bathroom. After accidentally lighting herself on fire with a candle following a...

Netflix audiences were enthralled by the mysterious death of a woman in Yosemite National Park in Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith’s Untamed last week.
The series debuted on July 17 and quickly racked up 24.6M views, putting it at No. 1 on the English-language TV list. That’s quite a strong start — and a rejuvenation of that chart, which was looking a little lackluster last week. This also marks the second No. 1 debut for Mark L. Smith this year, after American Primeval hit the top spot in January.
Once again, true crime was also top of mind for Netflix viewers. Amy Bradley Is Missing took second place, amassing 12.2M views from July 14 to 20.
The Sandman Season 2 also picked up another 3.3M views, good enough for third place. As Deadline previously reported, the series took a bit of a viewership hit from the first season, which finished its second week of availability with around 11.5M views.

“Girls” always seems to surge back into the cultural conversation, particularly since Lena Dunham’s new series “Too Much” premiered on Netflix earlier this month. In the near-decade since “Girls” aired its HBO finale, its cast has gone on to become film and TV stalwarts. Among the most prolific, of course, is Andrew Rannells — who appeared with Dunham on “Too Much,” giving fans the Hannah and Elijah reunion they were waiting for.
“Too Much” might’ve been the latest project pairing Dunham and Rannells, but it was far from the first. Actually, according to none other than Judd Apatow — “Girls” executive producer (among other things) — we now know exactly what the first scene they shot together was… and it’s a biggie.

With the latest rom-com on Netflix, “Too Much,” the platform is betting on an original concept, bringing in tested talent who have already proven their worth, particularly on HBO. Leveraging known talent who have built their own following is one tool that can help an original concept get off the ground initially.
As of July 11, one day after its premiere, “Too Much” had 22.3 times the average series demand in the U.S., tracking ahead of demand for both “Hacks” and “The White Lotus” at the same point in their first season. Popular British doll Sindy is preparing to break out of her box and onto the big screen in a new live-action musical feature that threatens to rival Greta Gerwig's mega-hit Barbieand give Margot Robbie's Mattel toy some stiff competition. Janicza Bravo and Lena Dunham first met while making Camping — Dunham was the creator of the short-lived HBO series, while Bravo was part of the ensemble cast — but it wasn’t until the pandemic hit two years after its cancellation that their friendship took off. “We had the same outlook,” Bravo says with a laugh. “I’m already a little antisocial, so it only encouraged me to be even more afraid of being around people. Lena and I trusted each other’s isolation style so we started to hang out.” Dunham was also in the beginning stages of her relationship with her now-husband Luis Felber, and soft-pitched Bravo her idea for a show based (loosely!) around their romance. “She said she wanted me to be in it, and that was a no-brainer because I would say no to anything she asked,” says Bravo.

First, the good news about this year’s Emmy nominees: Queer, Black, Asian and Latino performers made history. The less good news: Overall representation is down for people of color, especially for folks of Asian and indigenous descent.
Of the 92 total performers nominated in the acting categories, 24 of them are people of color, a dip from 2024, when Asian, Latino and Black actors made significant strides, with 30 nominees.
This year, members of the LGBTQ community did well across all categories. Bella Ramsey picked up their second Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for HBO’s “The Last of Us,” becoming the only nonbinary performer to be twice nominated for acting Emmys. This bit of history builds on Ramsey’s own milestone from 2023, when they became the first openly nonbinary actor to be nominated in a lead acting category.

It's once again Emmy Awards season with the 2025 nominations being announced on Tuesday, July 15. Even though FX on Hulu's smash-hit and award-winning series The Bear just released its fourth season last month, the comedy-drama series also earned 13 nominations for last year's third season. The new nods add to the show's record-setting wins in 2024, but one of the show's talented star's just made some Emmy nominations history of their own with an amazing achievement.
The Bear star Ayo Edebiri landed her third consecutive Emmy nomination for her acting performance. After winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the first season, Edebiri has now been nominated in the Lead Actress category for seasons 2 and 3. But for season 3, Edebiri earned not one but two nominations, this time also scoring a nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series for the season 3 episode "Napkins."

Lena Dunham knows that going into business with a romantic partner — let alone someone you have only known for a short period of time — is not for everyone. But a few years ago, about a month into their courtship, the Girls creator approached her partner, British-Peruvian indie musician Luis Felber, with an unexpected proposal: “Will you make a show with me?”
At the time, Dunham and Felber, who had met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend, were still getting to know each other. They had yet to hold hands in public, much less call each other girlfriend and boyfriend. They had barely seen — or heard about — the other person’s work. (Despite having a mother and a sister who were big fans of Girls, Felber admits he had never watched the HBO dramedy, and has only screened a couple episodes to date.)

The sensation that is “KPop Demon Hunters” is showing no signs of slowing down — in its third full week of release on Netflix, the animated film jumped to the No. 1 slot once again with 24.2 million views. Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for “Too Much.”
Emily Ratajkowski has returned to acting after making headlines in 2023 for firing her team and leaving the business. At the time, she lamented the feeling of making herself “digestible to powerful men in Hollywood,” so it’s no surprise that her first new project is not only created by a woman, but by her friend: Lena Dunham.
“Too Much,” Dunham’s new Netflix comedy series, follows Jessica (Megan Stalter) in the months following her breakup from her ex-boyfriend Zev (Michael Zegen). Ratajkowski plays Wendy, Zev’s new girlfriend, who is an influencer, and the constant stream of Instagram photos from Zev and Wendy’s happy life together drives Jessica crazy. She drunkenly breaks into their New York apartment to confront them one night, while Wendy does tell Jessica she seems crazy, she’s surprisingly calm and generous during the encounter.
Throughout the series,...

This may be the first and last time we ever say this, but this week's Pilot TV Podcast is both figuratively and literally Too Much. Yes, not only do we have four guests — specifically The Walking Dead: Dead City’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Scott Gimple [25:31 — 35:19 approx.] Karen Pirie’s Lauren Lyle and Emer Kenny [53:34 — 1:07:34 approx.] — but we also review four shows, including — you guessed it — Lena Dunham's Too Much on Netflix.
Elsewhere on the reviews front this week, James Dyer, Boyd Hilton, and Kay Ribeiro enrol at The Institute on MGM+, get Bookish on U&Alibi, and boldly go with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 on Paramount+. And that's not all — nuh-uh! The team also take a trip down memory lane as this week's listener question has the gang reconsidering favourite TV ads of yore, and on the news front there's Slow Horses' Season 7 renewal, The Morning Show Season 4 trailer,...
