Exclusive: Lionsgate has entered into a three-year co-financing and first-look deal with producer Daniel Grodnik and his partner Jeffrey Reisner via their company Golden Eagle Movie Studios.

It is expected that Grodnik and Reisner will focus on releases for Lionsgate’s vibrant multiplatform business. With Lionsgate, Grodnik has previously produced the features Mindcage starring Martin Lawrence and John Malkovich, and Primal, starring Nicolas Cage.

Lauren Bixby, EVP Acquisitions & Co-Productions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said, “Lionsgate is excited to be back in business with Dan. His movies consistently appeal to audiences worldwide and he is a nimble and effective producer. We can’t wait to see what his future projects have in store.”

Grodnik most recently produced Fast Charlie, directed by Phillip Noyce, and starring Pierce Brosnan, Morena Baccarin, and James Caan in his final film role.

Day won a Grammy Award for the 2021 movie The United States vs. Billie Holiday, which she also starred in and earned her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination. She more recently appeared in Netflix's 2024 horror movie The Deliverance and played herself in Peacock's Bel-Air series. The Honest Liar's cast also includes dgar Ramrez, who previously starred in the second season of American Crime Story and in HBO's The Undoing.

As per Deadline, The Honest Liar features Jackson playing an acclaimed movie actor, Nick DeFranco, who teaches undercover police officers how to act like criminals in exchange for avoiding prison time. Exclusive: Oscar nominee and screen icon Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) will star alongside Oscar nominee and Grammy winner Andra Day (The United States Vs Billie Holiday) and Golden Globe nominee Edgar Ramirez (Emilia Perez) in action-comedy, The Honest Liar.

Altitude is introducing the film to buyers at this week’s American Film Market, with CAA Media Finance handling domestic rights.

Written and directed by Wayne Kramer (The Cooler), the film will see Jackson star as an award-winning actor tasked with teaching rookie undercover cops how to act like criminals so they can save their own lives when on the job.

The film will be produced by Hollywood veteran Dan Grodnik (Fast Charlie) and Jeffrey Reisner, through their new outfit Golden Eagle Movie Studios, and executive-produced by Gail Thackray and Tracy Beam. Cameras are due to roll early next year.

Vertical has picked up domestic distribution rights for “Fast Charlie,” TheWrap has learned. The Pierce Brosnan-starring crime caper contains the final onscreen performance from the late James Caan. The picture will premiere on Oct. 7 at the Mill Valley Festival. Alongside Brosnan and Caan, who died in July of 2022 at the age of 82, “Fast Charlie” stars Morena Baccarin. Palisades Park Pictures will handle overseas sales.

Per the official logline, “Charlie Swift [Brosnan]is a fixer with a problem: the thug he’s whacked is missing his head and Charlie will only be paid if the body can be identified. Enter Marcie Kramer, the victim’s ex-wife and a woman with all the skills Charlie needs.” Phillip Noyce directed a screenplay from Richard Wenk. Exclusive: James Caan’s final film, the action thriller Fast Charlie, has been snapped up for U.S. distribution by Vertical ahead of its October 7th world premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival.

Caan died in Los Angeles in July 2022, aged 82, following a decorated career of six decades. Specifics as to release plans for his last project, based on the 2001 novel Gun Monkeys, haven’t been disclosed. On board to handle international sales for the pic, also starring Pierce Brosnan and the Deadpool franchise’s Morena Baccarin, is Palisades Park Pictures.

For those of you out there that may have missed it earlier this year, once upon a time great actor John Travolta starred as a sad-sack stalker named Moose in co-writer/director Fred "I did it all for the Nookie" Durst's psychological thriller The Fanatic. And today we've just received word that Travolta seems to think his performance in the much-maligned motion picture deserves an Academy Award nomination.

Our attention to the John Travolta "For Your Consideration" ad campaign was brought about via a guy named Will Mavity over on Twitter, who tweeted one of Travolta's campaign posters with the caption:

"Omfg Travolta Is Running Fyc Ads For The Fanatic (the movie with a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes). I swear to god this is not a bit. People made jokes about him doing this for Gotti last year and he actually did it asghfkj."

I love the slasher film craze more so than any other sub-genre. Yes, they’re a little repetitive for the most part but they’re always fun to watch. I guess the big formula with most of them, is A) Insert traumatic event. B) Find a location, secluded or otherwise. C) Cast teenagers and have them doff their tops and D) Have them get killed in a variety of manners. Also, the more dated the production, the better. Terror Train follows all of these steps and more. It’s one of the more upstanding and inventive of the slasher films to come out of the early 80′s. The biggest reason why it stands out to me, is that while Jamie Lee Curtis is the star of the film and easily the most recognizable of the roles.

In today’s film news roundup, Malcolm D. Lee is developing an action comedy, a Steve McQueen biopic is in the works and the Meet the Press Film Festival is set for Oct. 7.

“Girls Trip” director-producer Malcolm D. Lee is developing the action comedy “The Spoils” for Lionsgate to produce through his Blackmaled Productions.

The studio has hired Roshan Sethi and Hayley Schore to write the script, which centers on a group of immigrants who decide to recover stolen artifacts from a museum in London. Sethi and Schore wrote “The Resident” for Fox and “Code Black” for TBS.

Lee’s directing credits include “Night School,” “Barbershop: The Next Cut” and “The Best Man Holiday,” which he also produced. He’s currently shooting “Space Jam 2.”

Lee is repped by Paradigm and Del, Shaw, Moonves; Sethi and Schore are repped by Lit Entertainment and The Nord Group. The news was first reported by Deadline.

Based on events from the life of Fred Durst, Moose was written by Durst with Dave Bekerman. John Travolta is playing the title character Moose, a rabid movie fan obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero, Hunter Dunbar, played by Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Nikita). As Moose's obsession grows stronger, his fixation turns from stalking to ambition of destroying the star's life. The story was inspired by a real life fan who stalked Durst many years ago. Durst previously directed the feature films The Education of Charlie Banks and The Longshots.

In Primal, Cage will play a big-game hunter working on behalf of a zoo. He must survive on a Greek freightliner after his haul of dangerous, exotic wild animals is set free by an escaped political assassin, aboard the ship to be extradited to the U.S. The animals, including a rare White Panther, wreak havoc, chaos ensues.

Heading into the Santa Monica market, Us sales, production and financing company Fortitude International has boarded satiricial comedy Coup D’Etat, starring Michael Caine, Odeya Rush, Katie Holmes, Jason Biggs and seth Green.

Coup D’Etat has wrapped principal photography in Savannah, Georgia, and is directed by Lisa Addario and Joe Syracuse.

The story centres on an overthrown British-Caribbean dictator who seeks refuge with a teenage girl and her single mother in suburban America and teaches the youngster to start a revolution in her high school.

Addario and Syracuse wrote the Black List screenplay and their writing credits include Parental Guidance and Netflix comedy Divanation, which they co-wrote.

Defiant Pictures’ Lucas Jarach and Nicolas Veinberg are producing alongside Fortitude’s Robert Ogden Barnum and Nadine de Barros.

Coastal Film Studios in Savannah provided partial financing. Principals Jake Shapiro, Daniel Grodnik and Mary Aloe also served as producers, in association with Wysj Media, Hindsight Media and Altus Media, which also financed.

UTA Independent Film Group and ICM Partners represent Us rights.

Fortitude will continue sales on sci-fi thriller Android starring Aaron Paul and Olga Kurylenko, which will start shooting at Infinite Studios Singapore early next year.

Remark is backed by Daniel Grodnik’s Mass Hysteria Entertainment Company, Inc. and Wall Streeters Seth and Curt Kramer, and is aiming to develop and co-finance two to five features per year at budgets up to $10 million. Daughter of God is written and directed by Gee Malik Linton and marks Remark’s first project. Reeves, currently in theaters in the hitman actioner John Wick, stars as a police detective who investigates the truth behind his partner’s death while a young Latina woman (Ana de Armas) experiences strange happenings. Reeves, Linton, and Robin Gurland are producing while Elwes, the Kramer brothers, and Grodnik are executive producers. Filming is underway in New York.

Ketchup Entertainment has pacted with Altitude Film Entertainment...

Daniel Grodnik’s New York-based Mass Hysteria Entertainment Company has teamed up with financiers Seth Kramer and Curt Kramer to fund fledgling production company Remark Films.

The new venture will look to co-finance two to five films a year across genres in the $10m and below range. The company will also fund in-house development.

The first project on the books is Daughter Of God, Gee Malik Linton’s detective thriller starring Keanu Reeves and Cuban-born Ana de Armas that Fortitude International is selling. Cassian Elwes and CAA jointly represent Us rights.

Linton wrote the script and is directing the project, currently shooting in New York. Reeves, Linton and Robin Gurland are producing while Elwes, the Kramer Brothers and Grodnik serve as executive producers.

This is the latest pic that is part of E/F/O’s overall deal with Grindhouse/Lionsgate, which will distribute the $15M-budgeted Bus 657 along with Hannibal Classics. Without Warning is another film being released to Blu-ray by Scream Factory that I’ve never seen, but it’s with good reason. The film has been largely unavailable on home video for the past 30 years. From what I understand, there was a VHS released in the UK, as well as a DVD that was mastered from the same source used to master the VHS, but never a legitimate DVD release, and no release at all in the states. The fact that this film is even being released at all is a miracle, much less that it is being given the Blu-ray treatment, with all-new extras. Without Warning has a lot going for it. Exclusive: Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films has set Robert De Niro to star in Bus 757, a Stephen Sepher-scripted action thriller that Scott Mann (The Tournament) will direct. The film, which shoots in September in Baton Rouge, will be distributed by Grindstone/Lionsgate Films with Hannibal Classics’ Richard Rionda Del Castro and Patricia Eberle handling international sales. Efof principals Randall Emmett and George Furla are producing and financing, and international financing on the $15 million film is being provided by Hannibal Classics and Michael Mendelsohn’s Union Patriot Capital. Related: Cannes: Directors To Watch Bus 757 centers on a casino card dealer who puts together a crew to simultaneously rob a bank and hijack a bus full of hostages to use as collateral. De Niro will play “The Pope”, a casino owner with illegitimate business practices whose assets are the targets of the heist. Now that he’s in place, casting will begin in earnest.

Exclusive: Image Entertainment has acquired all Us rights to the action film Drive Hard starring John Cusack and Thomas Jane. Voltage Pictures handles international sales at Afm.

The thriller recently wrapped production in Australia and is set for theatrical release in 2014.

Brian Trenchard-Smith directed the story of a former race driver turned instructor who is forced to drive a mysterious thief on a race across Australia’s Gold Coast. Chad Law and Evan Law wrote the screenplay.

Image Entertainment chief acquisitions officer Bill Bromiley, Mark Ward and Michael Bayer negotiated the deal with Network Pictures’ Dan Grodnik.

Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films’ production and financing slate includes Martin Scorsese’s Silence, Vin Diesel’s The Last Witch Hunter and Hasbro’s Monopoly. The company backed recent releases 2 Guns and Escape Plan.

Said to mix the humor of Gremlins with the sheer terror and smarts(!) of Deep Blue Sea, Chomp 3D is set against the backdrop of the Louisiana bayou and flavored with Cajun culture. Expect many pools of bloody water and little else. The flick is on sale right now at Efm with no director attached. The flick, if sold, will be produced by Golden Globe nominee Dan Grodnik and executive produced by multiple Indie Spirit nominee Nick Stiliadis. The story is written by Louisiana native, ex-atf agent, and award-winning author and screenwriter Chuck Hustmyre.

The Walt Disney classic finally makes it high definition debut. Though it was made over half a century ago, Cinderella remains a timeless work of animation. Part of its lasting appeal can be attributed to the amazing concept art of Mary Blair, whose gorgeous backgrounds and unique color palettes help to define its iconic visual style. Though she was only credited with color and styling, her influence in the look and feel of the finished product cannot be denied. Another aspect that is often overlooked is the lovely vocal contribution by actress Ilene Woods. She brings a measured confidence to the beloved heroine and her singing voice is as gorgeous as the animation.
