Encyclopocalypse Publications not only brought John Skipp and Craig Spector’s novelization of Fright Night and Jeff Rovin’s novelization of Re-Animator back into print, they’ve also been commissioning new novelizations of older films. Matt Serafini wrote a novelization of the 1980 sci-fi horror film Scared to Death, while Christian Francis wrote novelizations of 1997’s Wishmaster, 1986’s Vamp, and 1985’s Titan Find (a.k.a. Creature). On the more recent side, Bret Nelson wrote a novelization of 2011’s Manborg. A couple months ago, we heard that we’ll be getting a novelization of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes from Encyclopocalypse Publications and author Jeff Strand. And now it has been revealed that Encyclopocalypse Publications also has a novelization of the 1989 Troma release Redneck Zombies (watch it Here) in the works!

The Redneck Zombies novelization is being written by Kristopher Ruffy and Ed Bishop, and the authors have even been kind enough to share some excerpts!

TV’s 1979 Titanic movie comes to Blu in two versions. We liked it when new but didn’t care for the cut-down theatrical version that hit DVD in 2002. Kino’s disc completes a set of various film versions of the infamous 1912 disaster, and allows us the chance for a Titanic ‘battle of the bands’ — we’ll rate them from several criteria. The filmed-in-England production has a nicely-chosen soap opera cast: David Janssen, Cloris Leachman, Ian Holm, Helen Mirren, Anna Quayle, David Warner, Susan Saint James, Harry Andrews.

Here’s a bumper crop of the weird and the British – streaming service Britbox, which is home to a wide selection of BBC, ITV and Channel 4 series including classic Doctor Who, is fortifying its sci-fi ranks. From Thursday the 20th of August, a host of new additions will be joining the classic and modern British fare, including cult series The Prisoner and the complete collection of Sapphire & Steel.

Warner Bros. has announced a new 50th Anniversary Edition of the iconic 1968 classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, following the movie's limited return to theaters last month. This brand new 4K restoration of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was overseen by filmmaker and devout 2001 fan Christopher Nolan, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival before it arrived in select theaters across the country last month, with the 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray arriving October 30. With Christmas 1970 on the horizon, the UK’s thrilling new sci-fi TV show UFO was well underway. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's first live-action series, it was set in the future and revolved around the activities of the Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation (Shado), a covert agency presided over by Commander Ed Straker (Ed Bishop) to fend off alien attacks on mankind. As a wide-eyed 8-year-old I was hooked and I can recall wishing two things. One was that I could have one of the Dinky Toys’ missile-firing Shado Interceptors, which I thought then (and still think now) was the coolest among the incredible array of vehicles that appeared in the show; I’d not be nearly as forgiving today as I was back then that Dinky had manufactured it in garish green, where the ‘real’ ones on TV were white. Over the weekend, it was confirmed that Francis Matthews - a prolific and respected actor, star of stage and screen - had sadly died, aged 86.

As Captain Scarlet - the hero of Gerry Anderson's '60s 'Supermarionation' series - Matthews was one of the iconic voices of this writer's childhood.

To mark his passing, the Week in Geek revisits the first episode of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons - first broadcast on UK television almost 50 years ago.

10: The Prisoner - 'The Chimes Of Big...

We're not sure if anyone has already stumbled across this (we did by accident) but it doesn't seem to have made the Interweb radar yet—the official website for director Matthew Gratzner's remake of the classic UFO series has gone live, though there's not a lot on the site as of yet.

What you will find at the Flash-only portal is a partial image of what appears to be an Interceptor. It looks a lot like the original design, but does seem to have a few differences here and there. Whether this is a representation of the final design is hard to say, but it's intriguing to see it nevertheless.

Other items on the site include the film's title logo, as well as a brief glimpse shortly after the page loads of the new S.H.A.D.O. logo. S.H.A.D.O., as you UFO aficionados already know,...

Actor Joshua Jackson is set to hop on UFO, a feature adaptation of the 1970-71 British cult TV series.

The Vancouver-born Jackson, who currently stars in the Fox television series Fringe, will play Paul Foster, a test pilot for an organization called S.H.A.D.O. (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization) which defends Earth from aliens who abduct humans and harvest their body parts. Col. Paul Foster was played in the original ITV series by Michael Billington, which also starred the late Ed Bishop as Cmdr. Ed Straker, the head of S.H.A.D.O.

The UFO movie will be produced by Henri M. Kessler and Avi Haas, from a script by Ryan Gaudet and Joseph Kanarek. Matthew Gratzner, who served as visual effects supervisor on such films as Iron Man, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and the upcoming Shutter Island, will be making his directorial debut.

One Of The kitsch classics of 70s sci-fi is to be revived and adapted into a Hollywood feature film.

British TV series UFO, which aired in 1970 and 1971, is fondly remembered for lead character Commander Ed Straker (pictured left), played by the late Ed Bishop, who bleached his hair for the first few episodes but then ended up wearing a white wig.

You may also recall the female crew on Moonbase - including actress Gabrielle Drake (pictured above) - with their purple bobbed hairdos, dramatic eye make-up and silver jumpsuits. Their commander was the glamorous Colonel Virginia Lake (pictured below), played by Wanda Ventham.

Now, nearly four decades later, the show - created by sci-fi veterans Gerry and Sylvia Anderson - is to be navigated on to the big screen by visual effects guru Matthew Gratzner, in his directorial debut, reports Variety.

It seems that the "aliens are upon us" theme is back in fashion in Hollywood these days. We just had the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still, ABC is about to bring V back to television, and now, word comes from Variety that UK television producer Gerry Anderson's cult sci-fi series UFO is set to get a feature film re-imagining.

The Robert Evans Co. has a first-look deal at Paramount, which will be first stop for the project. "We know the importance of the UFO series brand to ITV Global, and we will work closely with them to build this into a franchise," Evans said.

Evans is the man who brought the classics Chinatown and Marathon Man to the big screen. He is producing with Avi Haas and Henri M. Kessler. Ryan Gaudet and Joseph Kanarek are penning a script.
