Matthew McConaughey, Nic Pizzolatto Reunite For 'Mike Hammer' Movie
Image
Mike Hammeris about to look a lot like Rust Cohle — or maybe it's the other way around. The point is: Matthew McConaughey is reuniting with his True Detective creator, Nic Pizzolatto, to bring one of the most iconic, and aggressive, detectives to the big screen, with everyone's favorite Texan taking on the titular role. That's right, the prolifically-penned, pulp-y private eye, Mike Hammer, will be the focus of Pizzolatto's next scripted project.

The news, which was first reported by Deadline, comes on the heels of McConaughey's return to the screen in The Rivals of Amziah King after a six-year absence (if you don't count all the cartoon voice work he's done in the intervening years). And while the film's production house, Skydance, has yet to secure a director, with talents like McConaughey and Pizzolatto on board, it will probably only be a matter of days — rather than months — before a name is announced.

You Can’t Not Watch Knots Landing on Amazon Prime
Image
Here’s a fun fact to blow your minds: Yes, technically, Knots Landing is a spin-off from mega-hit Dallas. Gary Ewing is the middle brother of Jr and Bobby Ewing, who made one appearance on the Mother Ship show, played by David Ackroyd before Ted Shackelford took over the role for the next decade-plus.

But the original Kl concept pre-dated Dallas. It was supposed to be an American version of the Swedish series Scenes From a Marriage by Ingemar Bergman. That series didn’t get picked up. But when CBS wanted a Dallas spin-off, Lorimar made one of the characters a Ewing, and we were off to the races! You can watch the entire series from the start right here on Amazon Prime. Here’s why you should definitely do that.

Soap Hub may receive a commission on orders placed through retail links.

Below Deck alum Ashton Pienaar reveals Season 7 van fight with Kate Chastain ‘changed’ his life
Below Deck (2013)
Below Deck, fans will never forget the explosive van ride on Below Deck Season 7, where Ashton Pienaar nearly punched Chief Stew, Kate Chastain.

It was one of the hit-yachting franchise’s most awful, horrible, and toxic moments.

Ashton punched the van window while Chef Kevin Dobson and Deckhand Brian de Saint Pern tried to calm him down.

That moment was a defining one for Ashton, who opened up about it as he watched the scene back after “6 years of therapy.”

Taking to Instagram, Ashton shared the clip from the van ride with a photo of himself watching it.

Ashton spoke out in the video of the experience that gave him the life he has now and wrote a lengthy caption.

Below Deck Chefs With Huge Egos
Image
Below Deck chefs often struggle with huge egos, leading to conflicts with crew members and subpar performance. While some chefs, like Chef Rachel Hargrove, manage their egos well, others, like Chef Kevin Dobson, let their confidence get the best of them. The culinary creativity and pressure faced by Below Deck chefs set them apart from interior and exterior crew members, making their job uniquely challenging.

Several Below Deck franchise chefs have had huge egos. The yachting reality show spotlights the lives of the crew members working on superyachts. While the Chief Stew leads the interior team and the Bosun the exterior, the Chefs are left alone to work by themselves. They are tasked with feeding all the guests and crew members. However, sometimes, the Below Deck chefs can't handle the pressure and get fired mid-charter season. Below Deck season 11s Chef Anthony Iracane was a beloved part of the cast...

Below Decks Paris Field Throws Shade At Chef Nick After He Ruins Charter Guests Food
Image
Paris Field calls out Chef Nick for a disastrous meal on Below Deck, showing loyalty to Fraser Olender. Chef Nick's journey on Below Deck season 11 has been rocky, but he may improve in season 12 if given another chance. Paris strategically slams Chef Nick, likely to boost her social media presence and gain more support on the show.

Paris Field takes a shot at Chef Nick Tatlock after his recent blunder on Below Deck. The Australian stew recently joined the show in Below Deck season 11, episode 10. She replaced the former Stew Cat Baugh and took on her responsibilities. Little did Paris know, she was walking into a big disaster. The new stew had no idea that her Chief Steward Fraser Olender was dealing with too many problems to come over. One such issue was his differences with Chef Nick. Fraser didnt like Chef Nick's food and felt it could be much better.

The 8 Least Memorable Below Deck Franchise Chefs, Ranked
Image
Chef Anthony Iracane brings new flavor to Below Deck season 11. He shares culinary skills and sparks dramatic moments. Natasha De Bourg, David White, Kevin Dobson, and others may have been forgotten, but their dishes left a mark on viewers. Tom Checketts, Adrian Martin, Ileisha Dell, Matt Burns, and Nate Post had highs and lows during their stints on the show.

With Bravo's Below Deck season 11 in full swing, it's the perfect time to take a look back at the franchise's 8 least memorable chefs. These chefs may have had exceptional culinary skills, but they weren't able to leave their mark on the series, for one reason or the other. This season of the long-running Bravo series introduces a whole new crew of returning and fresh faces, led by Captain Kerry Titheradge, aboard the mega yacht St. David. Captain Kerry replaced fan-favorite Captain Lee Rosbach, who used to helm this vessel, and...

6 Below Deck Chefs Who Made The Worst Food (Why I Think Their Meals Were Awful)
Image
Kiko Lorran, Kevin Dobson, and Leon Walker are among the worst Below Deck chefs due to various failures in the kitchen and clashes with crew. The inability to handle high-pressure situations, conflicts with crew members, and serving subpar meals led to these chefs' dismissals from the show. Despite their culinary skills, some chefs like Kiko, Kevin, and Leon struggled with meeting guest expectations and maintaining professionalism, resulting in their downfall.

Below Deck is one of the best reality TV shows of all time, but some chefs have missed the mark with their food. As Below Deck season 11 continues to unfold, there's more drama between the crew than ever, but sometimes, the issues include the food. While there have been some great Below Deck chefs, some have made the time at sea unbearable for crew and guests alike. Who are some chefs who unfortunately missed the mark over the years?

Why Below Deck Down Under Fans Are Glad Chef Ryan Got Fired
Image
Chef Ryan's disrespectful attitude and lack of culinary skills led to his well-deserved firing from Below Deck Down Under. Fans were thrilled when Captain Jason finally fired Ryan, who has been one of the worst chefs in Below Deck history. Ryan's bad attitude and unwillingness to provide excellent service were evident to both Captain Jason and other crew members on the Thalassa yacht.

Chef Ryan McKeown was problematic on Below Deck Down Under, and everyone was glad he finally got fired from one of the best reality TV shows. Chefs are among the most important crew members on a luxury charter yacht. The guests expect the best experience, and the chef’s job is to cater to their needs. However, from charter to charter, Chef Ryan failed to meet the guests and Captain Jason Chambers' standards. While he definitely won't appear on Below Deck Down Under season 3, the drama of...

Why Below Deck Season 7 Was One Of The Worst Installments In Series History
Image
Below Deck season 7 was the worst in franchise history, filled with problematic behavior and a hostile work environment. Chef Kevin Dobson was difficult to work with and displayed misogynistic behavior towards the female crew members. Kate Chastain quit after dealing with the mistreatment from the men and the toxic masculinity displayed by the deck crew.

Below Deck season 7 was so full of problematic behavior that it may just be the worst installment in franchise history. As one of the best reality TV shows, Captain Lee Rosbach and longtime former Below Deck chief stew Kate Chastain returned to the helm. Season 6 deckhand Ashton Pienaar returned as a bosun for season 7, along with deckhand Rhylee Gerber, who came in mid-season to replace Abby Murphy when she quit. Newcomers Tanner Sterback and Brian de Saint Pern rounded out the deck crew, while Simone Mashile and Courtney Skippon came on as stews. While not...

9 Below Deck Franchise Chefs With The Worst Attitude
Image
Chefs on Below Deck can have unpredictable and mean attitudes, but they have become memorable cast members. Chefs like Ben Robinson, Marcos Spazini, and Tzarina Mace-Ralph had good attitudes overall, while others didn't. Chefs like Dave White, Jess Condy, Kevin Dobson, Tom Checketts, Rachel Hargrove, Mathew Shea, Leon Walker, Adam Glick, and Ryan Mckeown had bad attitudes on the show.

Over the years, many chefs who've appeared in the Below Deck franchise didn't have the best attitudes on board. If the popular Bravo franchise taught its fans anything, it's that chefs can be quite unpredictable and sometimes even mean. There have been one too many instances where a chef was mean to one of the stewards for not bringing their food to the charter guests while it was hot or would act differently depending on the day. Despite their unpredictability, the chefs in the Below Deck franchise have become some...

Below Deck: What Happened To Chef Kevin Dobson After Season 7
Image
Kevin Dobson, former cast member of Below Deck, still works as a chef in the yacht industry and freelances as a yacht chef while working full-time in Australia. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys fishing and recently caught a large Yellow Fin Tuna, showing his love for the ocean and seafood. Unlike Kate and Captain Lee, who have left the show, Kevin seems content living a low-key life as a chef and doesn't show interest in returning to the spotlight.

Kevin Dobson only appeared on Below Deck season 7, and it's time to detail what he's done after the hit reality TV series. During his time on Below Deck, he was often shown butting heads with Chief Stew Kate Chastain. He believed Kate wasn't meeting his service standards, and he called her out many times. Kevin was constantly undermining Kate, and she didn't appreciate his attitude. As fans await Below Deck...

Review: "All Night Long" (1981) Starring Gene Hackman And Barbra Streisand; Kino Lorber Blu-ray Release
Image
By Lee Pfeiffer

I know I'm not only getting old, but I'm there already. That's apparent in the fact that I remember seeing the 1981 comedy "All Night Long" at an advanced critic's screening in New York. Back in those prehistoric days before the internet, you had to read trade industry publications to get the background story or buzz on forthcoming films. Sure, the general public was always aware that expensive epics were experiencing production problems, but everyday movie fans were generally unaware of the scuttlebutt on mid-range fare. Within industry circles, however, the word-of-mouth was negative about the film despite the fact that it starred Gene Hackman and Barbra Streisand, both then very much at the peak of their acting careers. The film had gone through some almost surrealistic production problems that involved high profile people and had come in massively over the original budget estimate. I recalled thinking the...

Midway (1976)

Walter Mirisch’s slam-bang, eardrum-pounding Sensurround stock footage orgy for the Centennial Year gathers an impressive lineup of big stars to celebrate the U.S. Navy’s biggest aircraft carrier battle: Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, Toshiro Mifune. Director Jack Smight manages the talky, exposition-laden account of a sprawling, complicated battle rather well, at least in terms of clarity. What is unwatchable pan-scanned on TV isn’t half bad for fans of big-scale war movies. Pi gives us an approximation of Sensurround (I think), and also John Ford’s short subject The Battle of Midway from 1942.

SAG Awards 2021 In Memoriam: Sunday’s special segment will honor Chadwick Boseman, Oliva de Havilland, Cicely Tyson and who else?
Image
Even though Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be shortened to just one pre-taped hour on TNT and TBS, the special In Memoriam segment will still be a highlight. Since the 2020 event aired on January 19, it will be over 14 months until the one on April 4. That means even more actors, actresses and members of SAG/AFTRA will hopefully be honored than the 40 people in the tribute last year.

Chadwick Boseman died last August and is a four-time nominee for the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday. The two individual nominations are for his leading role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and his supporting performance in “Da 5 Bloods.” Those two films also are nominated for the top ensemble category.

Oscar winners who have died in the past 14 months include Sean Connery, Olivia de Havilland, Cloris Leachman and Christopher Plummer. Academy Award nominees include Boseman, Kirk Douglas, Hal Holbrook, Ian Holm,...

With dozens of television veterans having died since last year’s mid-September ceremony, people certainly included were these six TV Academy Hall of Fame members:

Diahann Carroll

Leonard Goldberg (executive at 20th Century Fox and ABC; producer of “Charlie’s Angels” and more)

Jim Lehrer (anchor/reporter of “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour)

Regis Philbin

‘Damn Sea Vampires!’ DVD Review
Stars: Cassie Scerbo, Jonathan Lipnicki, Kevin Dobson, Brandon Beemer, Jaqueline Fleming, Jimmy Sweetwater, Lawrence Turner | Written by Brook Durham | Directed by Don E. FauntLeRoy

After seeing Cassie Scerbo’s fantastic performance in Sharknado I made it a point to track down and watch anything new movie she was in, which coupled with the ridiculous new re-titling (this film originally aired on Us television as Beasts of the Bering Sea), made Damn Sea Vampires! a must-watch. It doesn’t hurt that the film is also helmed by cinematographer Don E. FauntLeRoy – who cut his directorial teeth on two Anaconda sequels and a handful of Steven Seagal movies, including one of the star best post-2005 flicks, Renegade Justice (a personal fave).

Damn Sea Vampires! follows a family of treasure hunters: siblings Donna (Scerbo) and Joe and their father (Dobson), who spend their days dredging for gold beneath the Bering Sea. Having already lost a crew member,...

Jane Fonda: From ‘Vietnam Traitor’ to AFI Award and Screen Legend status (photo: Jason Bateman and Jane Fonda in ‘This Is Where I Leave You’) (See previous post: “Jane Fonda Movies: Anti-Establishment Heroine.”) Turner Classic Movies will also be showing the 2014 AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony honoring Jane Fonda, the former “Vietnam Traitor” and Barbarella-style sex kitten who has become a living American screen legend (and healthy-living guru). Believe it or not, Fonda, who still looks disarmingly great, will be turning 77 years old next December 21; she’s actually older than her father Henry Fonda was while playing Katharine Hepburn’s ailing husband in Mark Rydell’s On Golden Pond. (Henry Fonda died at age 77 in August 1982.) Jane Fonda movies in 2014 and 2015 Following a 15-year absence (mostly during the time she was married to media mogul Ted Turner), Jane Fonda resumed her film acting career in 2005, playing Jennifer Lopez...
