It has been exactly 10 years since one television network scored the Emmy equivalent of the Triple Crown: wins for Best Comedy Series, Best Drama Series, and Best Limited Series in the same year. Back in 2015, HBO achieved that distinction when Veep Season 4, Game of Thrones Season and Olive Kitteridge scored each of those respective statuettes.
Flash-forward a decade and Apple TV+ — which likes to consider itself the "new HBO" — had a path to repeating that achievement. The streaming service already has Best Comedy and Best Drama wins in the offing with the one-two punch of The Studio and Severance. And with Presumed Innocent, Apple has the kind of A-list marquee limited series with big stars (including Jake Gyllenhaal) and big ratings that probably would have propelled HBO to a category win back in the day.
Somewhere along the road to Emmy night, though, Presumed Innocent lost traction as The Penguin...

With the Television Academy officially revealing this year’s Emmy nominees, attention turns not only to who’s in the running — but what episodes the actors are submitting. Though the Emmys have increasingly become dominated by buzz and momentum, official episode submissions can play a critical role. But as full-season sweeps have become more common, it’s worth asking: Does the individual episode still carry as much weight?
In the lead drama actress category, frontrunner Kathy Bates — who made history as the oldest nominee ever — opted for the penultimate 17th episode of “Matlock’s” inaugural season from CBS. “I Was That, Too” reveals the truth about Matty (Bates) to Olympia (Skye P. In the limited series Dying for Sex, Emmy-nominated costume designer Melissa Toth brings a blend of nuance and boldness to her work, perfectly mirroring the tone of the show. During Gold Derby’s Meet the Experts: Costume Designers panel, Toth shares insights into her long-standing collaboration with the series’ star, Michelle Williams, and discusses the transformative visual journey of Williams’ character, Molly, a woman facing terminal illness while exploring friendship, self-discovery, and sexual awakening.
How does Molly's wardrobe mirror the emotional and sexual evolution she goes on during the season?
We started out with kind of this idea of an infantilized woman. So little touches of girly collars and she wore denim overalls that took a minute to convince others that those might be a good choice. We wanted to start out somewhere in that realm so there was a place for her to go. And then we get more eye candy,...

This isn’t Michelle Williams’ first Emmys rodeo. The golden laurel has taken residence in her home since 2019, when she won for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie for portraying Tony-winning actress and dancer Gwen Verdon in the FX biographical drama Fosse/Verdon. Now she’s back in the same race for Dying for Sex, also on FX, but that doesn’t make campaigning any easier.
“I get so nervous,” Williams, 44, confesses. “It’s a lot of adrenaline and I still have to keep taking my own advice, which is to try and stay in the moment and enjoy it because it’s all over so quickly.”
Williams is nominated for her portrayal of real-life podcaster Molly Kochan, who, upon a terminal cancer diagnosis in 2015, separated from her husband of 15 years and embarked on a journey of sexual exploration that included multiple casual liaisons with a variety of male suitors.

Twenty years ago, Ang Lee's ‘Brokeback Mountain’ quietly entered theaters and initiated a cultural shift. At a time when LGBTQ+ stories were still mostly cast to the sidelines or reduced to subplots, ‘Brokeback Mountain’ offered something radical; a tender, tragic, and achingly human love story between two men, cowboys, no less, told with restraint and emotional depth. As the film celebrates its twentieth anniversary, its impact on Hollywood and queer storytelling remains seismic. It didn’t just bring positive attention to gay romance, it cracked open the limits of what could be portrayed in Cinema, challenged outdated notions of masculinity, and paved the way for filmmakers to imagine bolder, more honest narratives. “The Holiday” is getting its own TV adaptation, TheWrap has learned.
A limited series take based on the classic Nancy Meyers movie is in development at Apple TV+, with “Sweetpea” writer Krissie Ducker and “Catastrophe” creator Rob Delaney set to adapt for television. Meyers is reportedly not involved with the new project.
The show would follow the same premise as the film, in which a single American and a single British woman exchange homes for the holidays and find love and shenanigans through the bold experiment. Casting is currently underway for the two lead female roles, with a greenlight from Apple expected upon securing the right well-known stars.
The 2006 film was a commercial success upon its release and is a beloved classic for the holiday season. It starred Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black.

Destiny’s Child reunion vibes were nothing short of nostalgic as everyone buzzed at Beyoncé’s Vegas show, well, almost everyone. While Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams hit the stage to bring back the magic, a few ex-members, including Farrah Franklin, were noticeably absent from the throwback party.
Franklin’s journey took some wild turns after leaving the group, including multiple arrests for disorderly conduct and public intoxication that landed her in hot water more than once. As Matthew Knowles put it back in the day, explaining her short-lived time with Destiny’s Child (via MTV),
The bottom line is that Farrah didn’t show up for work.
From failed solo deals to a reality TV stint that crashed and burned, her life spiraled far from the spotlight.

As previously reported, Daisy Edgar-Jones will lead as Elinor Dashwood, with Esme Creed-Miles playing Marianne Dashwood. “Blue Jean” filmmaker Georgia Oakley will direct from a script by bestselling author Diana Reid. The feature has started filming in the United Kingdom.
Per an earlier announcement, “Originally published anonymously with the byline reading ‘By A Lady,’ Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ established her as a literary force and remains a cornerstone of English literature. The timeless exploration of restraint and passion follows sisters Elinor (Edgar-Jones) and Marianne Dashwood, opposites in their emotional approach, as they navigate love, loss, and financial uncertainty amid the societal expectations of 18th-century England.

Every horror fan has their favorite Halloween film. The franchise, started by John Carpenter in 1978, introduced the world to Michael Myers and the rest was genre history. The slasher sub-genre became the dominant horror style of the '80s with a handful of Halloween sequels for moviegoers to choose from. That being said, one of the most beloved films of the series starring Jamie Lee Curtis came out of the '90s. Now Neca is honoring Halloween's first legacy sequel with a brand-new figure.
A part of Neca’s popular seven-inch-scale “Ultimate” horror line, their latest Michael Myers figure is based on Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. The figure comes with two alternate heads, five alternate hands, a blood-stained kitchen knife, an axe, a killer ice skate, and a pumpkin with a knife stabbed into it. Neca has been working the last couple of years making figures for each Halloween film.

If you correctly predicted that Season 7 of Black Mirror would receive 10 Emmy nominations, you might be living on another planet ... or in a computer simulation ... or maybe both.
Netflix's long-running science-fiction anthology series had fallen into an awards rut, with Season 6 only garnering three noms in 2024, and Season 5 earning just a single bid in 2020. That's a far cry from the halcyon days of 2017-19, when it won eight Emmy Awards. Black Mirror's impressive showing this week can rightly be called an Emmys comeback, considering that 10 nominations is more than any of its prior seasons or stand-alone movies.
Blame the name game
In recent years, it's likely that category confusion led to Television Academy members struggling to properly determine where Black Mirror was eligible, which seemed to change on a season-to-season basis. For the 2025 Emmys and 2024 Emmys, Black Mirror was eligible in Best Limited or Anthology Series, a category...

Jay-Z and Beyoncé are the Emmys’ “’25 Bonnie and Clyde.” Let’s just hope the power couple stays Drunk in Love even after this year’s competition, where they’re competitors in the outstanding variety special (live) category.
Jay-Z, under his real name Shawn Carter, is among the executive producers nominated for Fox’s “The Apple Music Super Bowl Lix Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar,” which earned four nods total. Beyoncé is up for Netflix’s “Beyoncé Bowl” as executive producer and performer (billed as Beyoncé Knowles-Carter); that Christmas event also landed four nods.
Perhaps Jesse Collins can keep the peace. Not only is Jesse Collins Entertainment once again producing this year’s Emmy telecast, but the company was part of both the Kendrick Lamar halftime show and the Beyoncé event. On Emmy night in the production truck, Collins is likely to face 99 problems — hopefully this isn’t one.

The excitement of Emmy nomination morning fades quickly for studios and networks, because the more daunting question is always the same: How do we actually win?
It’s tempting to judge frontrunners based on sheer nomination tallies. If we followed that logic, drama series “Severance” with 27 nods, satirical comedy “The Studio” with a record-breaking 23, and the villainous limited series “The Penguin” with 24 would seem like the ones to beat. But this is the Emmys — nothing is ever that simple.
Looking at the drama categories, the race looks to shape up with Apple TV+’s “Severance” versus HBO Max’s critically acclaimed freshman entry “The Pitt,” which earned a solid 13 nominations.
On Emmy night, winning is rarely about just one factor. It’s about crafting the “winning package,” and both “Severance” and “The Pitt” performed exceptionally well with the Television Academy’s four largest branches: Executives, Actors, Writers, and Editors.

On Emmy nomination morning, Dying for Sex star Jenny Slate was working up a sweat for totally normal reasons. In speaking with Deadline, the actor, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, shared that she had forgotten about the special day once she became immersed in her daily life with her daughter in tow. It wasn’t until after a yoga mat workout that she eventually checked her phone to find “many text messages rolling in.” Slate says, “Because I’m me, my first thought was that somebody in my family had some sort of accident, but in fact it was something really good.”
Based on the successful Wondery podcast of the same name, Dying For Sex follows the story of Molly Kochan (Michelle Williams), a woman diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer who leaves her husband of 15 years to explore her sexuality.

With a total of nine Emmy nominations announced Tuesday for the FX show Dying for Sex, its star Michelle Williams told Deadline that the cast and crew group chat was blowing up. “There’s lots of fun activity on the thread. So many threads with so many women involved with this show, and so we’re enjoying ourselves over text,” she said.
Dying for Sex is written by Liz Meriwether and Kim Rosenstock, and loosely based on the real-life story of Molly Kochlan (Williams) who leaves her husband in search of sexual pleasure following a terminal cancer diagnosis. Molly and her best friend Nikki had co-hosted a podcast based on Molly’s blog “Everything Leads to This.” The show also stars Emmy nominees Jenny Slate as Nikki and Rob Delaney as ‘Neighbor Guy’, with Jay Duplass as Molly’s husband Steve and Sissy Spacek as Molly’s mother Gail.

Cristin Milioti is no new face in television.
Whether she caught your eye in “Black Mirror,” “How I Met Your Mother,” way back on “The Sopranos” in her first TV role, or during that killer “30 Rock” cameo, her work always stands out in already impressive projects, right down to her Emmy-nominated turn in “The Penguin.”

It's about that time again, people. The Oscars are over, the BAFTAs are behind us, and the Golden Globes were certainly a thing that happened, so all eyes are now firmly locked on the 2025 Emmy Awards. And this afternoon, Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song took to the stage of the Wolf Theatre in the Saban Media Centre to unveil the nominees for this year's upcoming 77th Emmys. And after what has been a pretty exceptional past twelve months in the world of television, Apple TV+'s Severance finds itself in(nie) pole position. Dan Erickson's water cooler dominating sci-fi series leads the pack so far with a staggering 27 nominations, while HBO's The Penguin and Apple's own The Studio are nipping at its heels with a heady 24 and 23 nods of their own respectively.

The nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are finally out, and it’s shaping up to be one of the toughest races in recent years. According to DiscussingFilm, shows like The Bear, Severance, The White Lotus, and The Pitt are grabbing the most attention after scoring multiple nominations across major categories. This year’s Emmys will happen on September 14, 2025, live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. You can catch it on CBS and Paramount+.
In the drama world, it’s a huge year for HBO’s The White Lotus, which picked up nominations in almost every acting category. Big names like Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Sam Rockwell are all in the supporting actor race thanks to the show. Even supporting actresses like Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, and Natasha Rothwell are on the list. With Mike White once again nominated for directing and writing, The White Lotus could easily win big.

The numbers are in and there are some winners and losers when it comes to today’s Emmy nominations.
As Deadline reported, HBO scored a record haul of 142 nominations, besting Netflix, which still secured 120 nominations, well up from its 107 last year, and Apple added to its pile from last year.

The 2025 Primetime Emmy nominations have been announced, and many fan favorites, returning series, and brand-new efforts have been recognized by the Television Academy. As IndieWire’s Marcus Jones predicted, the 2025 Emmys are one of the tightest races in recent years with a slew of returning winners side by side in competition with new buzzy series.
The Television Academy’s 24,000 members certainly have their work cut out for them as past Emmy winners like “Severance,” “The White Lotus,” “The Last of Us,” “Squid Game,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Hacks,” “The Bear,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Only Murders in the Building,” and “What We Do in the Shadows” are all back in contention for more awards.
