Stan Lee is the progenitor of all things great about Marvel Comics, but the legendary creator ultimately had some harsh words of advice for authors and artists seeking to follow in his footsteps at the publisher, as relayed by another iconic writer, Mark Millar, who revealed that Lee advised him: “don’t create anything here.”

In the latest episode of his “Millar Time” podcast, Mark Millar sat down with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, who recently had his own messy break-up with Marvel, for a wide-ranging discussion, which included touching on Stan Lee’s legacy at Marvel.

According to Millar, Lee advised him to develop characters and stories independently, rather than under the auspices of Marvel, a piece of advice that ultimately led to a flourishing “Millarverse” comic book continuity, covering the past twenty-five years of the author’s career.

With Wolverine’s recent addition to Disney’s MCU, Hugh Jackman is navigating questions about the character’s onscreen future.

Following his return to the role (aka Logan) in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, the Oscar nominee recently assured he “actually” has no news about whether he’ll slip on the Adamantium claws once again for Avengers: Doomsday.

“I really can’t say much, except when you say ‘appear,’ more like dominate and destroy every other character—I’m kidding,” teased Jackman on The View. “I really have nothing to add, and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add.”

Jackman made his debut as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, reprising the role in X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), The Wolverine (2013), Logan (2017) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).

It’s difficult to do origin stories in comic book projects for various reasons.

First, using the exact backstory may not work with the platform due to things like it being too unrealistic, long, or silly. Second, the creative team has to take the rest of the universe into account. No matter how accurate or good the tale is, you can’t use it if it hurts other characters, movies, or TV shows. The Bold and the Beautiful recap for Thursday, May 22 saw Hope and Carter making up, Daphne Rose putting her foot in her mouth, and Taylor and Brooke going head to head once again.

What You Missed Today On Bold and the Beautiful

Daphne Rose (Murielle Hilaire) was thrown by Hope’s (Annika Noelle) return to the office. To be fair, it was confusing. Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) went from treating Hope like her mortal enemy to inviting her back to the inner circle. What is going on? Zende (Delon de Metz) didn’t have answers. He had all the same questions too. Daphne Rose did look on the bright side. Hope may be back at work but she’s not back with Carter. Daphne Rose was still under the impression Hope was looking for love elsewhere.

Returning to work wasn’t the only good thing happening in Hope’s life.

Whistle, the latest film by The Nun director Corin Hardy, has been acquired by Independent Film Company (IFC Films) and Shudder. Whistle stars Logan's Dafne Keen,, as well as Nick Frost, Sky Yang, Sophie Nélisse, and Percy Hynes White. Although there's no release date yet, the film is set to play in theaters, and after that, it will likely stream on Shudder, the horror-exclusive platform.

Per the report by Deadline, the film was acquired for U.S. distribution by Shudder and IFC, two of the most important companies in terms of horror distribution today. Adam Koehler, Director of Acquisitions and Productions for IFC, Shudder, and Rlje Films, expressed his excitement about signing the deal to bring Whistle to audiences:

Dafne Keen's teen horror movie Whistle has just received an exciting update. Shudder has come on board to release the highly anticipated movie from The Nun director Corin Hardy in the United States.

Per Deadline, Shudder and Independent Film Company have acquired U.S. rights to Whistle, with a wide theatrical release planned for the horror movie. The release update should delight fans of the horror genre, given that Shudder is the premier destination for all things horror, thriller, and supernatural. It is not controversial to say "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" belongs on the list of perfectly watchable yet painfully clichéd superhero movies of the 2000s. Time has been kinder to the collective perception of this 2009 Marvel flick, as the pleasure of watching a hyper-committed Hugh Jackman embody Logan/Wolverine softens the film's many, many flaws. Moreover, this spin-off/prequel to 2000's "X-Men" wasn't well-received on release despite being a commercial success, as it was branded as yet another bland retelling of a comic book origin story that could've boasted more flavor or depth. In hindsight, the film's sole merit, besides Jackman, seems to be the fact that it helped kickstart an industry-wide obsession with spin-offs, where these kinds of stories were now more creatively ambitious than your run-of-the-mill cash grab.

Unfortunately, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" remains riddled with mediocrity, but one connected aspect of this Gavin Hood film is worth revisiting even today.

There are a lot of exciting things happening in the MCU right now. The Thunderbolts* are currently saving the day on the big screen and The Fantastic Four are about to take their First Steps towards a larger threat this summer. However, one of the biggest pushes the universe has seen in recent years has been the introduction of Mutants and the X-Men family of characters. Last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine saw the return of Hugh Jackman's version of the famous X-Men. Now, before Fox’s X-Men assemble in Avengers: Doomsday, Wolverine is preparing for battle with his latest ferocious Funko Pop.

A part of Funko's Pop Comic Book Cover line, this figure is based on Marvel's Wolverine #17 from 1989. The cover saw Wolverine in his brown and yellow X-Men attire lunging towards the reader with his sharp claws out. The Pop does a fine jump emulating that intimidating pose.

We didn't expect to see Dafne Keen as X-23 again following her acclaimed turn in James Mangold's Logan, but the young actress was given the opportunity to reprise the role in Shawn Levy's Deadpool and Wolverine as part of a Void Resistance team alongside Blade (Wesley Snipes), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and the late Johnny Storm (Chris Evans).

Laura appears again in the closing moments of the movie, having reunited with Logan and the Merc With a Mouth, leaving the door open for her eventual return.

Hugh Jackman is expected to play Wolverine at least one more time before we see a new team of mutants makes their debut in Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot, and it looks like his daughter/clone will be joining him.

According to Mttsh, Keen is set to return to the MCU. Avengers: Doomsday is possible, but if not, she will likely suit-up for Secret Wars.

Country music star and actor LeAnn Rimes has signed on to 9-1-1: Nashville, a new spinoff of the popular 9-1-1 series set in the titular city. Rimes joins season one stars Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley as a series regular.

ABC’s casting announcement didn’t reveal any details on Rimes character. Rimes also didn’t spill the beans when she posted on Instagram: “I can’t wait for you to meet my character. We’re going to have some Fun!! Here’s to a new adventure!”

“Set in Music City, 9-1-1: Nashville explores the high-stakes lives of first responders in one of America’s most iconic cultural hubs,” reads ABC’s synopsis. Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani are writing and will executive produce. Rimes is best known for her music career, originally finding success as a country artist before crossing over to other musical genres. She made the jump to acting in the late '90s, with roles in American Dreams, Drop Dead Diva, Anger Management, and Logan Lucky. As for Williams-Paisley, she is married to country musician Brad Paisley and had a recurring role as Peggy Kenter on Nashville, a beloved drama series set in the titular Tennessee city that chronicled the lives of various fictitious country music singers.

Shane, one of the greatest Western movies of all time, is finally coming to 4K Blu-ray. Kino Lorber is releasing the film in a two-disk 4K set this summer. A critical and commercial hit upon its release in 1953, Shane influenced many subsequent films, including the elegiac superhero Western Logan.

The disc features a brand new 4K transfer of the film, taken from a scan of its original 35mm camera negative. It also features the film's original theatrical trailer and two audio commentaries. That includes an all-new commentary by author and historian Alan K. Rode, who is writing a book on the film, and an archival commentary featuring George Stevens Jr. and associate producer Ivan Moffat. The set will also include a standard Blu-ray disc of the film. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, quietly confirmed last year who the anchor being of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, and it should come as no surprise. User @hermandy_s via the social media site X posted an interview in which Feige was promoting last summer’s hit Deadpool & Wolverine, and the studio chief stated that the MCU’s anchor being, or the being that helps tether their reality, is, in fact, Iron Man.

Iron Man, portrayed in the MCU by Robert Downey Jr. since 2008’s Iron Man, was confirmed to he the anchor being by Feige. In the interview posted to X, Feige began, “When Logan had come out, it was such a great movie. We were working on Infinity War and Endgame where I was trying to stick the landing with sending off our own anchor being.” The 2017 film Logan saw Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) as well as Professor X (Patrick Stewart) die.
