Tori Spelling has filed for divorce from Dean McDermott after an 18-year marriage.

The couple first separated on June 17, 2023, as stated in the divorce filing. On the same day, McDermott publicly announced their separation in a now-deleted Instagram post.

“It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own. We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time.”

Nearly nine months after the initial post, Spelling has officially filed for divorce.

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are going their separate ways.

McDermott took to social media to share the news in a statement on Saturday.

“It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own,” the actor’s statement read. “We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time. We ask that you all respect our privacy as we take this time to surround our family with love and work our way through this. Thank you all for your support and kindness. .

McDermott’s post led with a throwback picture of him and the “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress and ended with a recent picture of them posing with four of their kids.

“All That Breathes” and “Fire of Love” led the 16th Annual Cinema Eye Honors awards ceremony on Thursday night, which took place at the Museum of Moving image in Astoria, N.Y. and honored excellent craftsmanship and artistry in nonfiction films.

Shaunak Sen’s “All That Breathes,” which follows two brothers who run a bird hospital dedicated to rescuing injured black kites, won the top honor for outstanding achievement in nonfiction filmmaking as well as the award for cinematography.

Sara Dosa’s “Fire of Love” took home the most honors with three, including for editing, visual design (tied with “Moonage Daydream”) and original score. The film documents husband and wife volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft.

Founded in 2007, Cinema Eye Honors recognizes the subjects and entire creative team behind international nonfiction works, with several of its honorees going on to win Oscars for best documentary feature.

The first awards show of the season is gearing up.

On Tuesday, the nominations for the 2022 Gotham Awards were announced, with the Cate Blanchett drama “Tár” leading the pack with five nominations.

The film, about a superstar conductor accused of misconduct, received nods for Blanchett’s lead performance, supporting actors Noémie Merlant and Nina Hoss, writer-director Todd Field and Best Picture.

Following behind “Tár” are “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Aftersun” and “The Inspection”, each of which received three nominations.

Other notable nominees include Canadian director Sarah Polley for her screenplay for “Women Talking”, as well as Canadian “Sort Of” creator Bilal Baig in the TV performers category.

The Gotham Awards will be handed out Nov. 28 in New York.

The Gotham Awards, the first prominent awards ceremony of the fall season, has announced its 2022 nominations, recognizing 23 feature films, 15 series, and 35 performances in twelve award categories.

While films like Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise” were deemed ineligible due to the organization’s rule to only consider films with a budget below 35 million, prominent awards contenders like “TÁR” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” were recognized in several categories including Best Feature and Outstanding Lead Performance (the awards body removed gendered acting categories last year).

We all know true-crime is one of the most popular genres at the moment. There are documentaries and “based on true story” shows and movies coming out left and right but where most tell the story of the serial killer or a victim of a crime, HBO is bringing audiences a more critical approach.

“Mind Over Murder,” directed by Nanfu Wang, tells audiences the story of a complex murder case from the horrific event, through the investigation, the trial, and the exoneration of those accused, as well as, highlights how this too-bizaree-to-be-true case divided a rural community.

In June 2017 The New Yorker magazine published a piece under the evocative title, “Remembering the Murder You Didn’t Commit.”

It told the story of the “Beatrice Six”–three men and three women sentenced to lengthy prison terms for the 1985 rape and murder of a grandmother in the small Nebraska town of Beatrice (pronounced bee-at-trice). Five of the accused had confessed; only one had steadfastly maintained his innocence. More than two decades passed before DNA testing revealed none of those convicted had been present at the crime scene.

Among those who read The New Yorker article back in 2017 was filmmaker Nanfu Wang.

“I was immediately intrigued,” Wang recalls. “After reading [the article], I knew that I wanted to explore it in the form of a film.”

Documentary filmmaking the process of being a subject of a documentary have long amounted to a type of performative therapy, the camera acting as a sort of hybrid therapist/priest/judge.

An interesting spin on that theme, in recent years, has been the rise of performative therapy as documentary. Robert Greene (Procession, Bisbee ’17 and Kate Plays Christine) and Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence) are among the leading figures in this subgenre, in which filmmakers observe or sometimes orchestrate artistic exercises as a way of helping people confront psychological wounds and maybe reach catharsis, rather than simply making a film about the psychological wounds themselves.
