Exclusive: Vietnamese sales agent Skyline Media is teaming with Eastern Edge Films to release Vietnam-Korean family drama Leaving Mom across 140 locations in the US and Canada.

Released in Vietnam on August 1, the film has pulled in box office of $5.7m from nearly two million admissions, becoming the highest-grossing Vietnamese film ever released in August and the fastest to reach those earnings during the month.

North America release is scheduled for August 28 in time for the Labor Day Weekend.

Directed by Mo Hong-jin (Missing You), the film stars Tuan Tran and Hong Dao who previously appeared together in Tran Thanh’s Mai, Vietnam’s highest-grossing film of all time. Their new pairing follows a young street barber who is struggling to care for his mother with late-stage Alzheimer’s disease. Vietnam’s Bhd & Vietnam Media Corp are launching sales here in Cannes on historical martial arts action movie The Last Secret Of The First Emperor, set to star Johnny Tri Nguyen (Da 5 Bloods).

The film will be directed by Nguyen Phan Quang Binh, known for war drama Song Of The Stork (2002), which was sold to more than 25 territories, and The Floating Lives (2010), which at the time of its release was Vietnam’s highest grossing arthouse film ever. His recent credits include romantic drama Secrets Of The Wind (2019).

Johnny Tri Nguyen, a Vietnamese-American actor whose credits include Spike Lee’s Vietnam-set Da 5 Bloods, will also serve as martial arts action director on the film. Nguyen, who works between the U.S. and Asia, has also had roles in action films such as Charlie Nguyen’s The Rebel and Fanatic and Prachya Pinkaew’s The Protector.

Milo J is counting down the days until he drops his album 111. On Monday, the 16-year-old rap prodigy announced the track list for his upcoming LP, out Friday, which features the likes of Peso Pluma and Nicki Nicole.

Mumbai, Aug 7 (Ians) Actress Wamiqa Gabbi, who surprised everyone with her acting prowess in ‘Jubilee’, will be seen in filmmaker Atlee’s upcoming Hindi production, which also stars Varun Dhawan.

The yet-untitled film, which has been generating immense buzz across social media platforms, is popularly referred to as #VD18 and is slated for release on May 31, 2024.

My favorite thing about Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" is that it's an epic hero's journey, and, thus, a two-part tale. It's a jam-packed story and naturally lends itself to stretching out into multiple films — way before doing so was not only a thing, but an expectation. After all, "Kill Bill," though completely different in content and style, came before the double finales of the "Harry Potter" or "The Hunger Games" films.

Netflix’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by the return of one of the great sci-fi comedies ever. Natasha Lyonne is set to return as the temporally displaced Nadia on Russian Doll season 2 on April 20. The first season of the show premiered in 2019 and appeared to tell a rather complete story about one Brooklyn woman’s experiences of dying over and over again. But Lyonne and fellow producers Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler still have some story to tell. Netflix is undoubtedly very happy to let them continue to tell it.
