This week, it was announced that Apple TV+ has renewed Women in Blue, also known as Las Azules, for Season 2 on the streaming platform. Exclusive: Directorial duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Adil & Bilall) have signed to direct a feature film adaptation of Riders Republic, the award-winning video game from French games giant Ubisoft.

The project, which seeks to bring the spills and thrills of the extreme sports-focused game to the big screen – is being developed and produced by Gaumont and Ubisoft Film & Television. Gaumont’s international sales arm is launching the project in Cannes.

Although Mythic Quest’s sudden cancellation — and re-imagined now-series finale — came as a surprise to some fans of the Apple TV+ show, Rob McElhenney might have had a hunch that network higher-ups would demand production “just stop” — to paraphrase his character’s livestream — following Season Four.

McElhenney, who co-created, executive-produced, wrote and starred in the series, recently opened up about revamping the show’s finale, hinting that he and his team may have been prepared to reel that cliffhanger ending back from the edge long before they were given their official walking papers.

“We weren’t 100 percent sure that the show was gonna be coming back,” the sitcom icon explained while attending the Alliance for Children’s Rights Gala with wife and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star, Kaitlin Olson. Considering this uncertainty, McElhenney and the Mythic Quest team added another — non-shovel — tool to their arsenal: an alternate ending.

(Such is the way in Hollywood.) "For All Mankind," for example, is getting a spin-off series centered on Roscosmos, the Russian space agency featured in the acclaimed sci-fi show. Meanwhile, the now-canceled "Mythic Quest" has already given rise to one of the platform's most underrated shows.

Trying has officially been renewed for season 5 on Apple TV+. Kicking off in 2020, the show chronicles a couple who, after struggling with infertility, decide to adopt children. In the process, the couple must get their lives together enough to convince the adoption panel that they are ready to be parents. The show was created by Andy Wolton, with Trying featuring a leading cast including Rafe Spall, Esther Smith, Sian Brooke, Oliver Chris, Phil Davis, Darren Boyd, and Ophelia Lovibond. Trying season 4 wrapped up last year in July 2024.

Per Apple, Trying has officially been renewed for season 5. There is not yet a production schedule or any release date information available for the fifth installment.

The season-finale-turned-series-closer of McElhenney’s abruptly canceled workplace comedy Mythic Quest just hit streaming, and AppleTV+’s plan to allow McElhenney, Megan Ganz, Charlie Day, David Hornsby and Ashly Burch to end their project on (sorta) their own terms culminated in an attempt to put the genie back in the bottle on the show’s most shocking plot twist. When the streamer announced that Mythic Quest wouldn’t continue late last week, Apple simultaneously revealed their unprecedented move to re-cut the Season Four finale, “Heaven and Hell,” in order to allow the show’s creators to try and turn the episode’s salacious cliffhanger into a narratively satisfying conclusion, a daunting task for any editor with a deadline of just one week.

The outlet reports that the fourth season of the series about a group of endearingly dysfunctional game designers, which began streaming in January 2025, is actually its last.

In a rare move for the cutthroat streaming era, though, the show was reportedly given the chance to add on to its already-premiered finale, "so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over," co-creators Megan Ganz and Rob McElhenney and executive producer David Hornsby explained in a statement. "Mythic Quest," a show about the wild satisfaction of creation and the tooth-pulling pain of collaboration, starred McElhenney and Charlotte Nicdao as a self-obsessed innovator and an underappreciated game engineer, respectively. While the show started off parodying the behind-the-scenes drama of a "World of Warcraft" style online game, it developed into something more unique over time.

On Friday (April 11) it was announced that the Apple TV+ comedy series will not be returning for a fifth season.

The show’s season 4 finale originally aired on March 26. However, in lieu of the cancellation, an updated series finale episode will air next week.
