Amidst changing streaming strategies, Apple TV+ has decided to cancel 4 original shows in the year 2025. The decision comes after careful calculation about what the channel wants to air. The rise in production casts, evolving viewer tendencies, and the growing competition have led to Apple TV+ making these tough choices.
They have had to reassess their slate to keep in the running, only the shows and movies that truly represent what the channel stands for. Some of the cancelled shows have critical acclaim, or had stellar casts, but they failed to stand the test of the tough performance metrics that are now used to judge content.
Why is Apple TV+ saying goodbye to these original shows?

This week, it was announced that Apple TV+ has renewed Women in Blue, also known as Las Azules, for Season 2 on the streaming platform. The Spanish-language crime drama series has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after garnering high acclaim for its freshman season's eight episodes. The Mexican series, comprised of an entirely Latin American cast, has its second season now in production. Ariel Award nominee Bábara Mori will return for Season 2, joined by Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Téllez, and Amorita Rasgado.

Exclusive: Production is currently underway on the indie feature Otra in Atlanta and Puerto Rico with Rome Flynn, María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Flor Delis Alicea and Aria Celeste Castillo leading the cast.
From longtime Tyler Perry collaborator Armani Ortiz in his solo directorial debut, Otra is an emotionally charged new-age Latino musical that redefines the boundaries of the genre, shot entirely in a single, continuous take.
“I’ve been dreaming and planning for this project for the better part of five years, and for it to be my first solo debut feature film feels like fate,” Ortiz shared in a statement to Deadline. “From a filmmaking perspective, I really wanted to do something that the audience has never seen before—the first-ever one-shot musical in cinema history. The streaming platform Apple TV+ has had a slow start compared to other streaming giants, but the studios have managed to deliver some of the best shows online. Whether it’s Jason Sudeikis’s Ted Lasso, Adam Scott’s Severance, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon’s The Morning Show, or more. Apple Studios focused on the quality of the content they had been putting out for the viewers, and because of that, the audience and critics have lauded it.
However, the success and popularity of some shows at times come with some being pretty average, and some finally concluding with the right storyline. Apple Studios has recently announced the cancellation of a couple of shows in 2025. Let’s find out.

Game adaptations have been pretty underwhelming for a long time, until recently. Some of them have done a great justice to the original material. A similar story goes on for comic-based adaptations as well, as they had janky beginnings. Take a look at older Marvel movies, before the MCU was a thing. Yeah, you know what’s up.
Coming back to talking about video game adaptations, some were outright outrageous. For instance, Borderlands: The Movie, Hitman: Agent 47, and more. They have known characters, but they go way off when doing justice to the franchise. That is something Craig Mazin seems to realise, which made The Last of Us adaptation a success. Don’t talk about Season 2, it’s bad source material.

Dominique Thorne made her live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Riri Williams in 2022's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" and left us wanting an "Ironheart" series right there and then. What with everything we know about "Ironheart," the show should prove to be worth the wait, too. With executive producer Ryan Coogler (who also directed the first two "Black Panther" movies) fresh off his bloody vampire masterclass "Sinners" and the MCU itself on the upswing following the emotional gut punch of "Thunderbolts*," the hype train of "Ironheart" is drawn by two capable locomotives ... and that's before you take into account the amount of talent attached.
Series creator Chinaka Hodge was a staff writer on AMC's dystopian sci-fi train thriller "Snowpiercer." Directing duties of the six-episode series are shared by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes ("Mythic Quest," "Atlanta.") On the acting front, Thorne has ample backup from the likes of Anthony Ramos and Alden Ehrenreich.

Netflix may have won the streaming wars, but that doesn't mean other platforms didn't emerge as worthy contenders. Case in point: Apple TV+.
From having the best spy show on streaming to being the home to a cultural phenomenon like "Severance," Apple TV+ is all about hitting homeruns. For sports fans, the streaming service can even scratch that competitive itch with slam dunks like "Ted Lasso" and "Swagger," the latter of which is an incredible basketball drama starring O'Shea Jackson Jr. and Isaiah Hill.
Full discloser: "Swagger" was canceled in 2023 after two seasons. Still, the show is more than a fun watch and boasts strong reviews from critics and viewers alike. Loosely inspired by Kevin Durant's upbringing (the NBA legend also served as an executive producer on the series), "Swagger" is full of high-octane basketball and emotional off-the-court drama that goes hard with the cheesiness. Unfortunately, it's the season for television show cancellations, and we're going to start hearing about a lot of them. The broadcast networks will be pruning their lineups to make way for the new fall schedules, a process that has already begun. But over in the streaming world, that process happens year round, not just in May. So far, there have been a number of cancellations in 2025.
It's not all bad news, though. Plenty of streaming shows have already been renewed for new seasons this year, like Severance, Running Point, The Studio, School Spirits, Paradise, and more. Many streaming favorites are still awaiting word on their fates, but for some unlucky shows, their fates have already been decided... and it's not good news.
While there are many more cancellations worth getting heated over, like Prime Video's Clean Slate and Apple TV+'s Mythic Quest, these four cancellations were some of the...

Netflix fans, your life is about to change. Your favorite viewing content might not be all that different, but how you find it will. The streaming giant announced this week that the formatting for how they present their suggestions and what you previously watched will soon appear much different.
Just how different? Think Apple TV instead of Netflix. One is much bigger than the other in terms of who pays to see the content, but one is seemingly encroaching on the other in terms of how it looks.
The weird part is that Apple TV is dismissing series such as Mythic Quest because it is losing money. Still, the decision-makers at other companies are taking notice of how Apple tried to grow its brand and what subscribers liked. Netflix is building on that.

This week, Apple TV+ made a lot of exciting renewal announcements for its original series, but one of those announcements made history for the streamer. British comedy series Trying earned a renewal for season 5, which makes the critically acclaimed, fan-favorite series the longest-running comedy series on Apple TV+ in terms of amount of seasons.
With Trying season 5 now confirmed, the comedy has also achieved the ranks of the streamer's longest-running shows overall, matching the likes of For All Mankind, which has been renewed for season 5, and Slow Horses, which has been renewed for seasons 5 and 6. For comedies, Mythic Quest ended with four seasons, as will Acapulco this summer.

Although Mythic Quest’s sudden cancellation — and re-imagined now-series finale — came as a surprise to some fans of the Apple TV+ show, Rob McElhenney might have had a hunch that network higher-ups would demand production “just stop” — to paraphrase his character’s livestream — following Season Four.
McElhenney, who co-created, executive-produced, wrote and starred in the series, recently opened up about revamping the show’s finale, hinting that he and his team may have been prepared to reel that cliffhanger ending back from the edge long before they were given their official walking papers.
“We weren’t 100 percent sure that the show was gonna be coming back,” the sitcom icon explained while attending the Alliance for Children’s Rights Gala with wife and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star, Kaitlin Olson. Considering this uncertainty, McElhenney and the Mythic Quest team added another — non-shovel — tool to their arsenal: an alternate ending.

Apple TV+ has some of the best TV series around, even if seemingly no one is watching them. Most notably, the streamer is home to a myriad of incredible sci-fi shows, all of which are given the time (and budget!) to tell stories both epic and intimate in scope, transporting us to incredible and fully-realized worlds along the way. But that is not all; Apple TV+ has also produced new movies by some of our most celebrated auteur directors, including Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese.
Now that the streamer has been around for several years, it's begun to develop its own franchises as well. (Such is the way in Hollywood.) "For All Mankind," for example, is getting a spin-off series centered on Roscosmos, the Russian space agency featured in the acclaimed sci-fi show. Meanwhile, the now-canceled "Mythic Quest" has already given rise to one of the platform's most underrated shows.

This ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Great Is Conspicuously Absent From the Season 17 Staff List
If Megan Ganz isn’t working on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, then at whom will the Gang yell when they need someone to cut that, cut that, cut that?
The success of a sitcom like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is only made possible by the hard work of so many dozens of talented people in behind-the-scenes positions who remain anonymous all too often. However, in the case of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, one writer and executive producer has become a fan-favorite on the show despite never once appearing onscreen — at least, not in the show itself.
Ganz, a TV comedy veteran whose credits include work on Community and Modern Family and who co-created Mythic Quest alongside Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, has earned the adoration of the Always Sunny fan community through her work as an executive producer and co-host on the sadly concluded The Always Sunny Podcast.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney just pulled off one of sports’ wildest plot twists. When Ryan Reynolds isn’t cracking jokes or dodging bullets on the big screen, apparently he’s busy rewriting underdog sports movies in real life. In one of the most unexpected crossovers between Hollywood and soccer, Reynolds — along with his It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia buddy Rob McElhenney — bought Wrexham AFC, a tiny Welsh club buried deep in England’s fifth division. And no, this wasn’t some viral stunt or a pitch for a new Netflix series.
Back in 2021, the idea sounded like pure improv: a Canadian actor who barely knew the rules of soccer, teaming up with a sitcom star, dropping cash on a working-class team in northeast Wales. Fast-forward to today — Wrexham just clinched promotion to the English second division, putting them one step away from the Premier League, where the giants like Manchester United and Liverpool roam.

Rob McElhenney’s contributions to Hollywood have certainly been impressive. Having created the cult-classic series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, he has helped make one of the most beloved and consistently good shows of all time. Not only did he create an extremely captivating concept when the show was first released in 2005, but he has also managed to keep it relevant to the times as it approaches its seventeenth season now.
Considering how beloved the series is, one cannot help but wonder how he ended up creating the series. It would seem that the journey wasn’t an easy one for McElhenney. However, this did not mean that he was unaware of the advantages that he did have.

There’s no shortage of unhinged Charlie Kelly moments in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but the steroid arc was absolute gold. For Charlie Day, it was the peak of chaos, and frankly, it’s hard to disagree. Watching Charlie go full meathead with roid rage while still clinging to his rat-beating, glue-sniffing ways? Ah, iconic.
It’s one of those arcs that perfectly captures the show’s spirit: reckless, weird, and wildly hilarious. No wonder Charlie Day still looks back at it as one of the best. It was Sunny at its most juiced-up best.

Comedy isn’t just about getting the laugh—it’s about knowing who’s left hurting after it echoes. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has long been the class clown of television—unfiltered, unruly, and brilliantly wrong on purpose. It’s the sitcom that spikes the punch at the party, throws shade at sacred cows, and somehow keeps acing the comedy game despite breaking every rule in the book. But even the most chaotic jesters eventually trip over their own punchlines.
And that’s exactly what co-creator Rob McElhenney confronted when he looked back at a joke that crossed a line, swung too low, and missed the mark entirely.

Mythic Quest fans had mixed feelings about the original final episode of the show, but even the anti-GrimPops prefer an emotionally confusing cliffhanger to an awkward retcon.
When AppleTV+ announced the abrupt cancelation of their critically acclaimed series Mythic Quest from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney and his collaborators Charlie Day, Megan Ganz, David Hornsby and Ashly Burch late last week, the surprise plug-pull came with an extremely unusual caveat. In order to give the fans some semblance of a satisfying conclusion to the story following the dramatic twist at the end of the Season Four finale, “Heaven and Hell,” Apple gave Mythic Quest one week to re-edit what is now the final episode of the series and send the show into the “game over” screen on sort of its own terms.

Apple TV+ may have pulled the plug on its video game workplace comedy Mythic Quest, but the series’ creators have one more surprise in store for viewers: A brand-new scene that retcons Season 4’s very polarizing and wildly confusing ending.

As of this morning, Mythic Quest has officially concluded, as has the most complicated workplace relationship that Rob McElhenney’s had since he married Sweet Dee.
The season-finale-turned-series-closer of McElhenney’s abruptly canceled workplace comedy Mythic Quest just hit streaming, and AppleTV+’s plan to allow McElhenney, Megan Ganz, Charlie Day, David Hornsby and Ashly Burch to end their project on (sorta) their own terms culminated in an attempt to put the genie back in the bottle on the show’s most shocking plot twist. When the streamer announced that Mythic Quest wouldn’t continue late last week, Apple simultaneously revealed their unprecedented move to re-cut the Season Four finale, “Heaven and Hell,” in order to allow the show’s creators to try and turn the episode’s salacious cliffhanger into a narratively satisfying conclusion, a daunting task for any editor with a deadline of just one week.

The dark and complex season 2 of "The Last of Us" is upon us, and with it, the events of Naughty Dog's sequel video game "The Last of Us Part II" begin to unfold in glorious (and gory) live-action. The hit HBO show's sophomore season is set to introduce a number of new characters, many of whom accompany Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever) on a very special mission -- one that fans of the video game are no doubt already awaiting.
One of the key players in Abby's team is Mel, a former Firefly and a capable medic. Mel's medical knowledge plays an important role in the game's events, and the way she combines her caring nature with a surprising capacity for violence makes her one of the most memorable members of Abby's squad.
In the video game, Mel is voiced by "Mythic Quest" star Ashly Burch. However, she doesn't reprise the role in the show.

Rob McElhenney may not be a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but, today, on his 48th birthday, McElhenney has finally joined the even-more-exclusive ranks of the “Background Actors in The Proposal” Club.

It's lights out for Mq: Apple TV+'s hilarious yet under-the-radar comedy series "Mythic Quest" has officially been canceled, per Deadline. The outlet reports that the fourth season of the series about a group of endearingly dysfunctional game designers, which began streaming in January 2025, is actually its last.
In a rare move for the cutthroat streaming era, though, the show was reportedly given the chance to add on to its already-premiered finale, "so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over," co-creators Megan Ganz and Rob McElhenney and executive producer David Hornsby explained in a statement. "Mythic Quest," a show about the wild satisfaction of creation and the tooth-pulling pain of collaboration, starred McElhenney and Charlotte Nicdao as a self-obsessed innovator and an underappreciated game engineer, respectively. While the show started off parodying the behind-the-scenes drama of a "World of Warcraft" style online game, it developed into something more unique over time.

Mythic Quest, the Apple TV+ series partly created by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, is officially ending its journey, as the show will end after its fourth season. However, even though the series itself will done, the creators are going to ensure that the loyal fans will get a nice surprise that will give the show the send-off they deserve.

You know Rob McElhenney as the guy who made It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the show that somehow convinced us to root for a gang of sociopaths running a bar with no morals, no ambition, and zero understanding of consequences. But after nearly two decades of absurd chaos with Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Dee, and Frank, McElhenney decided to turn his world-building skills to the next dysfunctional ecosystem, the video game industry.
Then came Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, a slick, chaotic, and surprisingly heartfelt series about the studio behind a massive online RPG that makes World of Warcraft look like Minesweeper. It’s a show where debugging code is somehow as dramatic as Game of Thrones, minus the dragons, but with just as much betrayal.

Mythic Quest is logging off for good. The chaotic, code-crashing comedy from Rob McElhenney has officially been cancelled. But let’s face it: the biggest plot twist wasn’t in the show. It was the behind-the-scenes rage from actual game devs.
Turns out, while we were laughing at broken builds and ego clashes, some real-world developers were grinding their teeth. McElhenney might’ve wrapped up his pixelated sitcom, but his legacy’s stirring the pot in the gaming industry like a troll in a dev forum.

It's always a little awkward when you tell someone about a celebrity's death and that person has never heard of them to begin with. It's the same way with TV shows. "Have you heard that Swagger was canceled? "No, I haven't heard of Swagger to begin with." That's often the case with Apple TV+ shows, which are some of the most wonderfully produced and star-studded series since the days of streaming began. The problem is, most people have never heard of them, give or take Ted Lasso and Severance. Well, if you haven't heard of Mythic Quest, it's a delightful show, and you should watch it, though it's a little too late now. The series, which recently ended its fourth season (and a brief anthologized spin-off), has been canceled.
Created by three of the very funny minds behind It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mythic Quest had a lot of people rooting for it.

Rob McElhenney is known for his offbeat genius and doing what no one else has dared to. As one of the creators of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the actor-writer has made a career out of knocking the ball out of the park when it comes being unconventionally creative.
Whether it was his business decision with Wrexham or Sunny, McElhenney has consistently delivered. However, when it came to the Apple TV+ Og series, Mythic Quest, the actor-writer nearly walked away before it even began. While the show has been cancelled now, he recently reflected on his original hesitation, and his answer might surprise you.
