The Conjuring and Aquaman star Patrick Wilson's psychological thriller, A kind of Murder, will soon hit Max. The underrated murder mystery movie, which stars The Sinner and Blade: Trinity's Jessica Biel opposite Wilson, debuted in 2016 to less-than-stellar reviews from critics.

Audiences will have another chance to re-experience and re-evaluate A Kind of Murder when it arrives on Max on April 1. Directed by Andy Goddard from a screenplay by Susan Boyd, the film adapts Patricia Highsmith's 1954 novel The Blunderer. Wilson plays Walter Stackhouse, an architect and aspiring writer of short-story crime fiction, fascinated by the recent murder of the spouse of local bookstore owner Marty Kimmel. Biel portrays Walter's wife Clara Stackhouse, who apparently commits suicide not far from the restaurant parking lot where Kimmel's wife was murdered. A police investigation led by Detective Lawrence Corby ensues, as both husbands are suspected of being involved in the deaths of both women.

“Mid-Century Modern” introduces Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham as a trio of best friends who chose to cohabitate together during a pivotal part of their lives.

The three men are described as “gay gentlemen of a certain age,” who move into the home of the wealthiest of them in Palm Springs, where his mother, played by the late Linda Lavin, also lives.

In addition to the main trio, “Mid-Century Modern” also features a guest star lineup that includes Pamela Adlon, Vanessa Bayer, Kimberly Coles, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Judd Hirsch, Richard Kind, Stephanie Koenig, Billie Lourd, Esther Moon Wu, Jaime Moyer, Cheri Oteri, Rhea Perlman and Zane Phillips.

The highly-curated slate encompasses a wide variety of themes, from the genesis and rise of far-right ideology, monetized online sexual content, the impact of war in Ukraine, violence against nature and women in Montenegro, to the downfall of the Labor Party and extremists’ rise to power in Israel. All stories, told through fascinating portraits of individuals, are co-productions between two to four countries, spearheaded by top producers including Oscar-nominated Kirstine Barfod and Emilie Blezat (“Grace Jones – Bloodlight & Bambi”). Two of the titles in rough cut stage are earlier winners of the Cph:dox Eurimages Development award: “The Last Nomads” and “Four Brothers.”

Exclusive: Rebecca Wisocky (Ghosts), Joe Lanza (The Americans) and Crosby Fitzgerald (Palm Royale) are set for key recurring roles opposite Grace Van Patten and Sharon Horgan in Hulu‘s Amanda Knox limited series.

Amanda is based on the true story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.

Wisocky will play Cecilia, an American in prison who moves into Amanda’s (Van Patten) cell to take care of her. Lanza portrays Chris Mellas, Amanda’s stepdad who found love later in life with Edda (Horgan) and is a strong presence in Amanda’s life.

Fitzgerald will play Madison, Amanda’s best friend who always speaks her mind.

Netflix has ordered a new six-part supernatural drama limited series set to be filmed in Newfoundland in Canada.

Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the new limited series today with a quote from Netflix Canada’s content directors, Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury. They said, “Jesse’s bold, ambitious vision offers thrills galore, with the heart of a family drama. We can’t wait to transport our members to coastal Newfoundland with this timely story about community, resilience, and adaptability.”

Plot details are scarce, but the trades state that the series will be set in a remote town in Newfoundland, Canada’s easternmost province. That town is “terrorized by a mysterious sea creature, and a hard-bitten fisherman must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life.”

The series has yet to be titled but is being helmed by Jesse McKeown.

TV adaptations of popular novels and book series can become some of the best and most critically acclaimed television series. Shows like Game of Thrones, You and Bridgerton adapted different book series and quickly became cultural phenomenons. Other shows like Bosch, The Sinner and Sherlock have turned crime books into critically acclaimed crime dramas and procedural series. It's safe to say that TV adaptations of novels and book series won't go away any time soon. And in 2025, fans have many adaptations to look forward to.

Fans of Yellowjackets' non-linear narrative will love piecing together the puzzles in Cruel Summer. Each season's standalone mystery, involving troubled teens in small towns, unfolds over three summers.

Netflix is losing a Top Gun-esque movie starring Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. While the streaming service is known for original movies and TV shows including Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Wednesday, Carry-On, and Leave the World Behind, their library is also populated with titles that are licensed from other companies. As these licensing agreements expire or change quite often, every month there are usually quite a few titles either joining or leaving Netflix.

The Top Gun-inspired movie that is departing the platform soon is one of these licensed titles, and it is particularly star-studded. Jamie Foxx is a well known multihyphenate who is a stand-up comedian and musician along with being a decorated actor, having won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 musical biopic Ray. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for his work in Collateral.

Netflix's 1992 may be a unique addition to the crime thriller genre, but viewers looking for something similar to watch have a long list of shows to choose from. The exec, who is currently Vice Chairman, NBCUniversal, a “strategic advisor” role, is set to exit the company after the end of her current contract.

It is unrelated to the corporate shake-up that happened this week that saw a slew of cable networks spun-off into a new company, leaving NBC, Peacock and Bravo under the NBCU umbrella.

After starting her career at Wgbh-tv, where she produced This Old House, Hammer worked at Lifetime before joining Universal Television in 1989. She also worked at then-titled Sci-Fi before Universal Television merged with NBC and she became president of USA Network.

She took over then-named Universal Cable Productions in 2008 and has had a variety of roles at the company including chairman of the Universal Studio Group; Chairman, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, where she oversaw the cable networks; and Chairman, Direct-to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises,...

NBCUniversal vice chair Bonnie Hammer is set to exit her role at the end of the year following the expiration of her current contract, an individual familiar with the matter tells TheWrap.

The decision to depart is hers, the individual said, and is unrelated to parent company Comcast’s recent announcement that it will spin off its cable network portfolio.

Hammer, who has over 40 years of experience in the television business, has had a hand in shows including “Suits,” “Umbrella Academy,” “Taken,” “Psych,” “Monk,” “Mr. Robot,” “The Sinner,” “Homecoming,” “The Act,” “Dirty John” and “Battlestar Galactica.”

According to Deadline, Biel is in talks to star opposite John Cena in Matchbox, a live-action feature film from Apple Original Films, Skydance, and Mattel Films. Biel has been acting in Hollywood since the early 1990s, although she didn't rise to prominence until 2003 when she starred in the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Her other film credits include the Marvel movie Blade: Trinity, the Jason Statham romantic drama London, the Adam Sandler comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and the sci-fi remake Total Recall. Earlier this year, Peacock announced that Jessica Biel would star in and executive produce The Good Daughter, a psychological thriller based on Karin Slaughters bestselling novel about two sisters who survive a brutal crime that shatters their family and uncovers dark secrets. Unfortunately, it seem that this is no longer the case as the Emmy award-nominated actress has dropped out of the project. The limited series was picked up by the NBCU streaming service in March, with Slaughter writing all episodes and executive producing with Biel.

Netflix has ordered the limited series adaptation of “East of Eden” from writer Zoe Kazan, Variety has learned.

The series was originally reported to be in development at the streamer in June 2022 with Florence Pugh attached to star as Cathy. Now, Christopher Abbott is set to play Adam, with Mike Faist as Charles and Hoon Lee as Lee. Netflix has ordered seven episodes.

Mr Robot showrunner Sam Esmail’s Battlestar Galactica reboot needs a new home as streaming platform Peacock has reportedly passed on it.

A new take on the space opera TV series Battlestar Galactica is no longer in development at NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock, it’s been reported.

Originally announced in 2019, the Battlestar reboot was being overseen by Sam Esmail, creator of hit series Mr Robot, who was executive producer under his own company, Esmail Corp. Various writers had come and gone over its long gestation, while 2023’s Hollywood strikes also delayed work on show.

Esmail told Deadline in October 2023 that development on the new Battlestar Galactica was still ongoing, however, and things still sounded positive in January, when Derek Simonds, who wrote and directed TV’s The Sinner, was announced as its new screenwriter.

According to Variety, however, Battlestar Galactica has ceased development at Peacock, and Universal Content Productions...

The long-gestating reboot of the popular sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica, from Sam Esmail’s Esmail Corp., is no longer set up at Peacock.

First announced as being in development at the NBCUniversal streamer in 2019, the new incarnation of Battlestar Galactica never got to a green light but remained in development, including a writer change within the past year as The Sinner creator Derek Simonds came on board as writer, executive producer and showrunner.

That version of the project from Simonds will now be shopped to other platforms by its studio, Peacock’s NBCUniversal sibling UCP.

A new take on the classic IP, the latest incarnation is executive produced by Simonds as well as Esmail Corp’s Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

Battlestar Galactica has been a passion project for Mr. Robot creator Esmail who is a big fan of the original.

Variety reports that the Battlestar Galactica reboot series, which was in development for Peacock, is no longer moving forward. I smell a Cylon conspiracy.

The Battlestar Galactica reboot series was first announced in 2019 and has been in development ever since. The reboot was a passion project for Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, who was slated to executive produce. Michael Lesslie (The Little Drummer Girl) was originally attached to write the project, but he left and was replaced by The Sinner creator Derek Simonds in January, who was attached to serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series. However, this may not be the end of the project, as an individual with knowledge of the situation said that it will be shopped to other outlets.

“Battlestar Galactica” will not chronicle its next chapter on Peacock. A planned reboot for the classic sci-fi hit is no longer in development at the streamer, an insider close to the decision-making told TheWrap.

The project had been in development since 2019, helmed by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”). It was never officially picked up to series at Peacock, and though no plot details were revealed, the show was set to be set in the same timeline as the popular 2003 series.

The news comes months after “The Sinner” EP Derek Simonds was tapped to be writer, executive producer and showrunner. The reboot will now be shopped around to other outlets by its production company, UCP, with whom Esmail has an overall deal. The project was in development with UCP, Esmail Corp and Chad Hamilton.

“Battlestar Galactica” was first introduced in the ’70s as a single-season show starring Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene.

From season 3, which premieres on September 22, adds actors from CSI: NY and Y: The Last Man. Robert Joy and Samantha Brown join the cast as new characters, Henry and Acosta. Joy is known for CSI: NY, while Brown is recognizable for holiday movies.

Former NBCU exec Frances Manfredi, who most recently was president of content acquisition and strategy at Peacock, has joined indie TV studio Future Shack Entertainment as partner and head of distribution and content strategy. The hire was announced Monday by Future Shack Ent. founders Jeff Wachtel, Sam Michaels and Yusik Choi.
