I've seen other reviewers comment on how much this show is like House MD. The biggest difference is that House was a jerk, he knew it and everyone knew it. Watson is a Jerk but acts like he walks on water, and the people around him have him on a pedestal. This Watson is 180 degrees from the bumbling idiot some early Sherlock Holmes shows made out to be, but at the same time making him far more brilliant than the average Dr. From the source material. Episode 1 was painful to watch and I would have rather see a stand alone show for Lucy Liu's Dr. Watson from Elementary because this adaptation is related to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Dr. John H. Watson in name only.
The show started out well and the premise is good enough to make for interesting stories. The problem is that the characters are mainly whinny brats. They are perfect, do-gooders who are self absorbed and immature babies all at the same time. There isn't a single character who is not pouting and complaining about life most of the time, looking for reasons to be offended and still trying to fix those around them. General Hospital is not as cheesy and unbelievable as Fire Country. Body in particular is the TV equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. Skip this show and watch the news to get whinny, entitled people instead.
I so wanted to like this show! Jesse Martin is a wonderful actor and this type of show, where crime is solved using unusual methods, are fun to watch. Unfortunately, the writing on this show falls flat. The stories are far fetched, the cases are shoe-horned into the "science" and the cast around Martin just does not work well around him. This show is a copy of Lie To Me with every possible cliche thrown at you in the first couple of episodes and every possible corner cut to make the crime solvable in under 50 minutes while still exploring the bigger story arch or Martin's character trying to figure out who caused the bombing where he was burned.
