Volume 2 sets the tone for how dark the story will go, but we still weren't ready.
Lots of improvements over Volume 1, with better animation, introduction to new characters, better writing, and even better fight choreography. The voice acting has improved significantly over Volume 1, as well as great character development. While it does still have janky animation here and there, it still keeps its charm. The volume starts off with two new characters and probably the most epic food fights an animated series has ever had. This volume also introduces many new creatures of Grimm, as well as a slightly dark backstory of the kingdom of Vale.

While it may not have aged well in the visual department, RWBY Volume 1 has something going for it. The animation is janky, yet the fight choreography is amazing, given the limitations of the show back in 2013. The voice acting is... good for the most part, but that improves as time and the series goes on. If this was first show you watched from Rooster Teeth, then you won't believe that this the same studio that made Red Vs. Blue back in 2003. This is honestly their first show that didn't have strong harsh language or mature adult humor, and also their first show to be built from the ground up and original without source material!
If you want to get into the RWBY series, this is a good start!
Just be sure to watch the four trailers first!

A great volume with one hell of an ending,
The animation has improved over the first two volumes, as well as some impressive fight choreography. The writing really starts to get better from here.
While the first half starts off light-hearted, with good fights and some of the funniest and most quotable moments, The end of the first half is where everything changes. The second half gets darker from here on out. Great moments, Shocking scenes, plot twists, and an ending that will leave you speechless, in shock, and leaving you wanting more!
Here's to RWBY Volume 3, the volume that changed everything!
