Feast knows that it's a dirty, trashy, low-budget monster movie and it excels at being just that.
I personally rank it up there with some of the great meta horror movies like Cabin in the Woods and Evil Dead 2.
The beginning does a great job playing with your expectations before subverting them in the most over-the top way possible and sets the perfect tone for the rest of the movie.
Fans of practical creature effects, splatter house gore, and raunchy humor will be delighted by this simple, bare-bones, straight to the point plot and dark humor.
Don't go in expecting a deep story, just enjoy the campy madness of a bunch of one-note characters struggling to avoid becoming monster chow.

I sought out THE VOID after watching a review by a Youtube commentator because it sounded right up my alley. I'm glad to say that the movie didn't disappoint.
As a fan of 80's horror, especially practical effect creature features like John Carpenter's classic The Thing, David Cronenberg's equally amazing version of The Fly, and Chuck Russel's The Blob, THE VOID is a fantastic throwback to what many consider to be a golden age of monster movie cinema. Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski are clearly talented visual artists with a passion for the tropes of 80's monster movies and their dedication to staying true to this form is clearly demonstrated in THE VOID.
One of the things I most appreciate about this old-school breed of horror film making is that it doesn't resort to cheap jump scares, but rather takes the approach of slowly building a sense of dread and helplessness in the face of paranoia, madness, and the supernatural.
Some have complained about the ambiguity of the plot, but the very nature of Lovecraftian horror is built upon ambiguous existential terror and indescribable monstrosities born of madness or forces beyond our comprehension. And sometimes, as in the case of THE VOID, less is more.
All in all, if you're a fan of monster movies, 80's horror and practical effects wizardry, you are in for a treat. Is it life-changing or groundbreaking? No. But it expertly surfs a wave of nostalgia while delivering effective chills and haunting visuals.
