Pro:
Con:
This is a movie to get lost in Lively's eyes and not much else. The on-screen "romance" is below terrible. The characters do not evolve at all and if they are forced to in the last 10 minutes, it doesn't come natural at all.
Lively puts on a superb performance. Everyone around her does not. The screenwriter did the least.
This is not "The Great Gatsby" or "Benjamin Button". This is, albeit not a turd, quite forgettable. Come for the period pieces and the costumes, not for any "love story", because there is none.
FIRE HUISMAN!
- Blake Lively is lovely.
- Production quality is good.
- Hair/ Make-Up, Costumes.
Con:
- Michiel Huisman. Dreadful 0/10 casting choice. No chemistry AT ALL.
- The plot is even thinner than the trailer might suggest. If you think there's more to it than the first 10 minutes. No. That's it.
- No emotional attachment. No drama. Makes you not care about anyone involved.
- Baaad storytelling. Lazy exposition, lazy narration, random plot elements. So on-the-nose. So un-subtle.
- Harrison Ford. Not his best.

Borderline boring.
Bale and Cotillard do well in their part, as expected. But Depp isn't tailored for the role as Dillinger, just an ill-fit.
The music is either over the top and annoying or absent in the weirdest moments. The sound design is downright bad. Sound editing was made by an amateur film student - can't explain it otherwise. The movie is too long, it doesn't make me care about any plot line or character. When a movie fails to catch you emotionally, it failed overall.
The tone is weird, the structure of suspense is all over the place. The question remains? Who was this made for?
3.5/10.

I'll make this quick.
The directing on this one is immaculate. The colour grading, contrast and overall cinematography as a style fits the tone so we'll. It's darker and more serious than other installments. Not a simply entertaining action flick for the family.
The action is great, don't get me wrong. But the tone, continued intensity throughout and the acting is top notch. Cruise actually pulls his potential. Monaghan is crucial, since most love interests don't stick emotionally, but she's great. But of course, the absolute MVP of this movie, unsurprisingly, is Seymour-Hoffman. A freighting, downright scary performance, not to be forgotten soon. Immaculate work by him. My favourite installment of the franchise.
