So I decided to give The Acolyte a go despite me not wanting to watch it due to such a huge backlash. I have to say I'm rather disappointed in the show. Don't get me wrong it was visually appealing for the aesthetics because it's a Star Wars property and the fight choreography was incredible that felt very much like the prequel trilogy speed. But that couldn't save it from the horrid writing and storytelling aspects of the whole series because it seemed like it didn't know what kind of show it wanted to be. The performances were incredibly lacking in convictions of their characters and most of them were instantly forgettable. And the pacing of the show was all over the place to the point of a lack of suspense or tension between characters. The show had potential to be good but it flopped hard on its head.
One of the best horror movies I've seen as of late. A superb retelling of the 1922 Nosferatu, Robert Eggers completely knocked this out of the ballpark! The a superb performance from Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Holt, and Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlock made this movie look and feel dark and foreboding. The cinematography from Jarin Blaschke absolutely makes it feel like an old vampire movie by making the dark feel like a character in itself! The amazing visuals of 1800's Germany and Transylvania really make the period piece feel the way it should have been back in 1922 when the original was made. I highly recommend this film!
Alien:Romulus is a damn near sequel in the Alien Anthology series. With the added story to make it more interesting and terrifying, it had you gripping from start to finish with amazing cinematography and art direction that stayed true to the mythos that Ridley Scott started in 1979. The sound design also stayed true using the original sound to establish the universe. The music score was a nice blend of the original score from Jerry Goldsmith along with more variation of heightened and suspense. The young actors in the film also dialed it in and made it even more compelling. If you're a fan of Alien, I highly recommend Alien:Romulus!
