Just saw this movie again after 39 years. Well-acted period piece. Out-dated by today's standards, but still a decent night at the movies. What really caught my attention was how George Peppard chained smoked throughout this film. The guy burned one in every scene. Aside from that, he did give a creditable performance, but nothing to write home about.
Jean Seberg looked beautiful. She was a rare beauty and very talented as well. She is wasted here, but her brief time on scene does capture your attention.
The supporting cast of veteran actors do a professional job. The only real problem is that the film drags at times and lacks any real action. The ending was typical, but this was 1969, so don't expect too many surprises.

What a dull and boring film. What a shock that such a highly regarded group of acting greats starred in this terrible mess. Clearly out-dated, but even so, the whole story is utterly stupid, the Southern accents are laughable, the sex scenes are without steam, and the script is first grade at best.
The only worthwhile thing in this snore bore is the beautiful and sexy Jane Fonda. Jane's scene with a sax is interesting to say the least. Poor Faye Dunaway is wasted here. Micheal Cain tries his best, but just can't pull it off. John Phillip Law is tall and handsome, however he is wooden and stiff and is a total flop.
I'd Hurray away from this mess!

This is a darkly disturbing film of a Nazi war criminal, still wearing his German army uniform, who is hidden in his father's house, and led to believe that World War II is still going on. The ending of the movie is a bizarre mix of Fellini and Capote. Schell escapes his "prison" and walks around the streets only to be "shocked" that there is no destruction or war raging. He ends up in a local theater and salutes an actor playing Hitler. I won't give the ending away, but it's a shocking surprise ala Play Dirty or To Live and Die in LA. The acting is great, the black and white film make the movie realistic and it captures a time in history which hopefully is gone for ever. An excellent film.
