The original _Mission Impossible_, before the TV series and the films, this sets an incredibly difficult conundrum to solve and then manages to do so, untying every knot, delivering many sucker punches in the process.
Pulse pounding, unpredictable and thrilling to the core, this sets such a high benchmark for the _behind enemy lines_ genre flicks, that it seems almost insurmountable.
Eastwood is reduced to a spectator. This is Burton's film.
Only one flaw- Germans here seemed to have poor aim and you may end up wandering how did they end up being the juggernaut they were, in the initial phases of world war 2.
Based upon Alistair McLean's eponymous book, this is a must watch for all fans of action films. I hope that you don't choose to judge this by its age (57 years old) and end up depriving yourself of an adrenaline shot to remember for long.
Very highly recommended.

It is not easy to think of films , besides the truly great ones such as _Pulp fiction_, that have hardened criminals, gun fights, numerous kills along with several moments of laughter and absurdity. This is one such film.
Takashi Kitano (who also directed this) as the chief commander, who is forced to chill on a beach along with his troops, when a gangwar is raging on, is excellent. His intensity and deadpan acting made my day.
This is a cult classic and among Kitano's best. For me, his _fireworks_ remains his best work. But this comes a close second. At 90 minutes, it is leisurely placed, yet packs many moments of cinematic wonder. Loved it.

I never thought that I would get to see a Pakistani film, dealing with topics such as religion, rights of women, terrorism, brainwashing of youth, racial profiling, which would make for such a thrilling narrative.
This is a sensational film, a timeless classic. I found it still relevant, 18 years later.
There are two dialogues that rankled me, one about Kashmir & another about Taj Mahal. But there is so much to like about this.
Naseeruddin Shah has a super impactful cameo, where he dissects how religion has been hijacked and its teachings, distorted.
It must have been incredibly brave to make this, two decades ago. I am pretty sure that movies such as this will be very difficult, if not impossible to make, nowadays.
Not available on any OTT, torrents. Has started streaming on YouTube. Go for the 2 hours, 47 minutes version, if you decide to watch this. You will be blown away.
