I see a lot of movies, and the great majority of them make little impression on me. They are fun and entertaining, but quickly forgettable. Not DISCONNECT, though. This is a powerful and provocative film that not only keeps you pinned to your seat but also makes you think about the consequences of your actions. It should certainly be required viewing not only for young people but also for anyone who uses social media or communicates via the Internet. This is a timely, well-written, well-acted, and well-paced movie that stays with you long after you leave the movie theater. I was also pleased by the fact that the director and writer did not take the easy way out. No glib, predictable solutions here, which is one reason why the film's events linger in your mind.

The longest hour and a half of my life. This filmmaker seems to delight in closeup shots that linger endlessly on people's faces. There is little action in this film and little dialogue. But what was most troubling was the minimalist approach to plotting. It's left to the viewer to draw conclusions and attempt to figure out what's happening and why. Character motivations are generally obscure. The two little kids are adorable, but unless you're a major fan of home movies of cute children, the long, long segments of kids being kids rapidly get boring. This is the kind of movie that some critics will praise for its artsiness, but the general public will find tedious and dull.

When I heard the title and learned that Adam Sandler was in this movie, I had very low expectations. Boy, was I surprised. This is a wonderful film, not at all the low-level fluff film I expected. All the female actresses, young and old, are absolutely terrific, and Adam Sandler does a respectable job in a semi-serious role. The writing is very clever, and the film will elicit laughter as well as tears. I found my self still thinking about the movie the next day, something that all too often doesn't happen with today's highly forgettable films. One caveat: this is really a movie for teens and up, not a kids' movie. Aside from a bad word or two and a (hilarious) sex scene, the underlying themes are quite adult. Enjoy!
