Badly told story, and imaginary fairytale of a so called Chinese culture, unconvincing portrayal by actors that had to deal with a poor storyline.
This movie shows what happens when you don't make choices, but want 'to do all'. It needs to be chinese, it needs to be a fairytale, it needs to have magic, it needs to be realisitic and above all....it need to be made for 'the western world', the US most prominently.
What a piece of work this movie. The makers missed the incredible opportunity to make Mulan into a more authentic (as far as this is possible with this story) story. But they didn't. Far from it.
Incorportating typical western ideologies, values and customes. The phoenix being the embodiment of this all. This creature was on the wrong set, in the wrong story for -probably- the right reason. But then...stay true to the Chinese setting. Make it into a Fenghuang, leader of women. I get that!
Disney only shows it wants to rule the world with their vision, rewriting other cultures as they see fit. And by all means, it is the freedom of every storyteller to do so. But if you do, then at least tell a good story and tell it good.
The four stars for this movie only give credit to the amazing clothing and visuals (although I don't expect them to be true to a Chinese history).

I was staggered by the first sentence of the plot summary. "This medical series can be considered as the closest Flemish counterpart of "ER"." Ohw, please come on!! This is the worst thing I have ever seen. Bad acting, a cheap production, implausible (to say the least)plot. To be honest, a production as expensive as "ER", that is quit impossible in Europe, but still. I haven't been able to watch one show from beginning through end.
Well, I doubt it will be a case of taste, but I don't know all. Let's keep this in the middle... Still,IMDb, Please revoke this opening sentence in the plot summary, as it is an insult to "ER".
