Like many, I was disappointed when it was announced that Superman was to be rebooted and that Henry Cavill would no longer be playing the man of steel.
I'm glad I gave this a chance.
The movie plays like a combination of the essences of the Christopher Reeve movies, the Henry Cavill movies and a little bit of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Superman is naive, vulnerable and someone who cares deeply about everyone else. He's the likeable character that nobody but the worst in society would attempt to bully as it would seem akin to slapping a baby, and yet, he embodies all the bravery, strength and ferocity that you would expect from the worlds greatest hero. He's not afraid to throw a knockout punch, but he'll do his best to make sure you're ok after.
My children were in fits of laughter every time Krypto was on screen, providing some of the many light hearted numerous moments.
Lex was every bit the villain you hoped for, unable to physically match Superman, his intelligence and genuine hatred for meta-humans makes him every bit as dangerous as a Kryptonian.
Some moments of humour were out of place, damaging more sombre moments that needed to feel a bit more bleak for the following heroism to truly land. This is my only criticism.
Superman is back, and it's a Superman that every member of the family can enjoy together.

I very recently discovered this YouTube show while looking for something easy to pass a little time and now I'm hooked.
AJ has a gift for story telling which keeps you engaged and entertained while he presents the various myths, legends, conspiracies etc. The well placed humour keeps each episode light and fun, even when talking about quite dark subject matter. AJ then debunks or rationalises each story with respect and in such a way that the viewer feels like they've learned something without ever feeling silly and without defaming anyone's character.
The production itself is great, it creates that sense of having someone in the room with you and talking with you but at the same time, feels like something that wouldn't be out of place on mainstream TV with a great musical score and good use of video and photo evidence.
An absolute must see for anyone enthusiastic about UFOs, aliens, the paranormal or conspiracy theories.
