It's a decent start. Charismatic, free-spirit CIA rookie uncovers a potentially significant revelation and decides to go after it. You'd think in real life someone in general counsel wouldn't still be alive if they just went to a clandestine location without warning by himself to meet with undercover agents. Nor would two co-workers allow that to happen and chalk it up to hazing. But it's Netflix, so hey, don't think about it too closely. You can see all the basic tropes setting up. The rookie who will soon become more valuable and experienced, the roommate who's his ex who he will eventually get back with, the idea that he'll have to transition from being general counsel to being an undercover agent, etc. But it's not bad enough to keep me from watching the second episode. So we'll see where this goes.
Oh man. This was incredible. So well written. So well directed too! Gotta give credit to Ben Stiller. There's so much going on at once. I don't want to spoil it, but it answers a few questions about who each character is apart from their "innie." The problem is, it just elicits more questions. Questions I now have to wait months to get answers to! But this show is incredible. If you like black mirror, you'll love it. And I think the craziness and drama overshadow how low key funny the series is, in its own dark and quirky way. I cannot wait until next season, and will just watch a bunch of theory videos on YouTube until then.
One of the most moving and powerful tv episodes I've watched in some time, and to think it came from this show was a pleasant surprise. This entire episode has a different feel. The way it's shot, the music, the whole vibe. It tells Yuki's story and what's really cool is I think at the end the videos of a younger Yuki was really this actress. This season has tried some really different and interesting things, and this is an example of that being for the better. And give props to Maya for writing and directing it all. Truly, truly special gem of an episode in a gem of a show. You should check it out.
