The woman who played young Olivia was great and looked the part. Very pretty. Whoever the one was who took over as grown Olivia was just not attractive enough to be believable in the role. Olivia was gorgeous, this one, not so much.
I just happened to stumble across it for the first time when I was working out of town and in my hotel room. Wow, I thought, what a good show. After that I was hooked and luckily I had a friend who used to record everything so I was able to get copies of the full run from him. Much like Freaks and Geeks, another great series that the networks didn't know what to do with, this show did not deserve to be canceled. At least F&G was rerun and released on DVD. Cupid hasn't been seen in the U.S. since its original ABC run. Even when ABC tried to bring it back a decade later with a different cast, they still didn't know what to do with it and stuck it on the schedule in late March with no promotion. Screw you, ABC. You suck.
It really is a shame that this show is barely remembered. And, if it is remembered at all, it is for the Fabian episode, A Lion Walks Among Us, which caused so much controversy at the time. If you watch that episode today, compared to what airs nowadays, you'll wonder what the fuss was all about. But getting back to the show, I've had the chance to view about 3/4 of the episodes and this is really one of the greatest dramatic series of all time. I would say that of the episodes that I've managed to see, all but two or three of them are great. Unfortunately there is no chance of this ever seeing the light of day again. Its in black and white, there are no big stars that are regulars and the biggest drawback is that the show is owned by Fox, a company which has no interest whatsoever in it's older television library. Really unfortunate but at least a full set of shows reside at both UCLA and the Library of Congress.
