This movie was incredible. Wow. Not incredible as in I'll watch it again and again. Not even incredible as in I'd buy it. But an incredible experience to go through. Watching this movie is like bearing witness as a person's carefully constructed facade crumbles, leaving him to struggle with the horrors that were so carefully buried beneath. "I shouldn't have left the house..."

My husband said "isn't that the guy from Batman?" and I said absolutely not... Throughout the whole movie I didn't see it, and only found out by reading IMDb. I had no idea he is such an incredible actor! Without him, I don't think this movie could have amounted to much of anything. Susan Sarandan was fabulous (and gorgeous!), but the rest of the cast was just "meh". Cillian's performance was entrancing and entirely believable. The story was very slow, but flashes and bangs weren't the point. As the story developed, the creeping horror increased and we couldn't help but watch in fascinated silence.

I recommend this movie to any sensitive person looking for an Experience with a capital E. I do not recommend this movie to those who will shut down at the sight of a man wearing a dress, because that is not at all what this movie is about and it does the film a disservice to interpret it (and dismiss it) in that way.

The first time I watched this movie I was laughing or smiling practically the entire time. This is a FUNNY movie, in a sly winking over the shoulder sort of way, and peppered with beautiful moments (and a few very human awkward ones). The opening monologue and the dinner table scene are absolutely classic-- hilarious and yet beneath the humor is sincerity and honest exploration of the questions central to this movie.

I agree with those who have said this isn't a movie for everyone, but I'd say it's definitely worth viewing if you have an open mind. The soundtrack is also gorgeous in itself and worth checking out. I have watched this movie many, many times. Here's to many more!

The only thing that kept me watching this movie to the end was my stubbornness. I am very surprised at the decent reviews this movie has gotten-- did I watch a different movie? Did I somehow miss what I was looking for-- depth, insight, humor, characters who evoke an emotional response (any emotional response!). None of this was in "Echos". Instead, what is offered is watered down Buddhism mixed with the Celestine Prophecies and a hint of Richard Bach; terrible acting; creepy whispered voice overs... Ugh. This movie bored me and made my skin crawl at the same time. It seems that this movie was attempting to capture the joy and grace of enlightenment reached in "I Heart Huckabees"--- and failed miserably. Save yourself from watching this movie-- you will never get the time back...
