It doesn't really play true to the traditional Star Trek themes, playing a bit darker, but I don't have a problem with that. I don't think it's as good as the last Star Trek movie (which was the worst of the recent trilogy), so I decided a 6 was a fair score.
The production value and the acting is good, the writing is mediocre and the plot is decent if a little predictable in its main arc.
If I had seen this in a theater I'd probably be bummed, but as a throw-in on Paramount, I'm quite happy to see it. I'm a sucker for sci-fi and it's definitely better than a bunch of the awful stuff Netflix has been making in the genre (Atlas and Rebel Moon come to mind). I'd put this as a nice-to-have on a slow Sunday afternoon rather than a blockbuster to get excited about, but I don't regret watching it.

Finally something decent in the Star Wars universe. The children do a good job and obviously Jude Law is excellent. But most importantly, they actually tell a fun story and aren't just doing non-stop fan service.
Far too many SW properties are just rehashing stuff from the original trilogy -- creatively bankrupt. But the SW universe is a very interesting setting *IF* you are actually willing to tell an original story within it.
Andor is still my favorite, partly because I'm old and partly because I'm particularly partial to a workers' rebellion. But for younger viewers, this is a no-brainer. My niece, who doesn't really like SW, still really liked this show.

I have no idea why this movie is rated so poorly, me and my buddy both loved it. Plenty of unexpected turns, funny characters, and a fast-paced plot, with fun turns, that never leaves you wanting to reach for your phone.
