It's not Get Shorty. Just get that out of the way. It's a totally different movie. This is A list stars from movies, music, comedy, with some not caring about giving over the top performances where they don't look good. Often they look stupid. But they are supposed to be. And most deliver great scenes, great lines, and some great character arcs. And it calls back to so many great movies and so much great music.
The first Act is a depressing collection of cameos, including his entire immediate family, wife and two daughters. One of them goes all Sophia Coppola and has a major recurring role. You know that is not a good sign. The second Act is the Happy Gilmore we all came to see and it's great. The comeback montage / Rocky style tribute to Carl Weathers, his first time back on the real golf course, all the call backs and the new schtick, and now the cameos are fun. But then.......the WTAF third Act. "Regular" golf v Maxi golf was just stupid. Not Happy Gilmore silly, just stupid. And it ruined the whole thing.
Really an 8.5. Krypto alone is worth half a star. Although Krypto steals every scene he is in, there is plenty humor and heart spread around the whole cast. Even Perry White gets in a great one liner and not's even "Don't call me Chief! Best Luthor since Hackman, and TBH, maybe even better. Hault got a lot more to work with and he used it. Corenswat and Brosnahan have great on screen chemistry and they really do a terrific job of making their character's relationship believable and compelling. Jimmy, Tessmacher, and especially the Engineer, even the Robots all had great parts. Justice Gang was great, loved the Hall, Nathan Fillon like always delivers better than the US Post Office. And they use the John Williams score so very well. They don't overuse it. Just enough to get that visceral and emotional reaction. Not a full 10 because that bar is set real high with the GOAT Superman. This is the best since then. By far.
