I have to admit that the costumes and settings for this movie were absolutely wonderful, gorgeous, sumptuous, incredible!! However, there are some issues. A big, clunky, bucktooth female, age 47 was cast to play the delicate 25-year-old Madame Du Barry. The dried-out, beyond his due date, Johnny Depp incredibly is the French king. I have to admit I was impressed with Depp's makeup; he really looked like he had syphilis...oopsie......smallpox!! I tried to let the beautiful costumes and settings carry me through this painfully long movie but to no avail. Also, someone missed the cue here with the actress, Maiwenn's hair. It's always down and stringy, therefore forcing us to pay more attention to her face. I admit it's a petty detail.....but considering this was set at the time when women's wigs reached the sky. My bad. I also got a kick out of Louie's daughters' wigs. Looks like the hairdressers tried for a beehive hairdo and sent the women out during a tornado. The big hair flopped to the side, which, after a while, I found a delightful side tracking. I thought the hair reminded me of those popcorn trays you keep shaking over the stove and it ballooned out. Sorry, I digress again!! I got a bit queasy thinking about what this woman would get to when she.......took care of her customers. Okay, I wrote my bit but to add one small detail. Madame Du Barry was 49 when she met with the chopper (historic fact). Maiwenn, you played her, was 47 when she played her. Directors should always think twice before playing the main role themselves. In this case, it's painfully clear she has no taste or talent as a director. Again, I'm being petty. My bad.
