Paul, a young man whose father was once lieutenant Governor of California before his untimely death, has a strange, recurring dream in which his mother falls in love with a dangerous man; the dream also contains the image of his father's death in an automobile accident under mysterious circumstances.
Through the help of his friend, a doctor, Paul realizes that his dream is coming true, and that his mother is falling under Curtis's influence. Curtis, in fact, is a homicidal maniac who lives as an out-patient at the sanitarium of the unscrupulous Dr. Muhlbach. When Curtis makes an attempt to marry Paul's mother, Paul intervenes by investigating ...
Starts with an intense dream sequence where its sense of delirium is powerfully expressed, then it's suspense and melodrama all way, with Lyndon suspecting his widowed mother's new boyfriend (mr smooth Warren Williams) is after her money, and later she suspects he is a killer of young women who is thought to be dead. He plays a right detective - he even willingly checks into a mental health sanatorium as part of his investigation, while the sinister Curtis homes in on his prey, the boy's mother and his sister. There's a dastardly accomplice with Curtis (the mind doctor) and family doctor (Regis Toomey) aiding Paul.
It's an intriguing picture with Freudian and Oedipal overtones and Curtis is quite a disturbing character in how he leers at young women and apparently kissed one under the water. Obviously he's a sexual predator. All this is under the surface - I enjoyed this one, however I found the villains revealed thirty minutes in dampened the suspense a bit and Lydon conveniently was one step ahead of the fiends; he even guessed about the two-way mirror. A little too contriving there. The script should have been a bit stronger, but it's still a fairly good thriller with a good atmosphere of dread and suspicion.

A returning World War II veteran who has everything going his way: a good marriage with a beautiful and loving wife (Jane Wyatt) and a healthy, energetic young son, along with a position as a Los Angeles insurance executive and a lovely home. However, the veteran (Dick Powell) exhibits the restlessness that many returning servicemen experienced following a global military conflict.
This penchant for excitement leads him into an extra-marital affair with a sexy blonde model (Lizabeth Scott). Which leads to deadly results - obsession and murder!
A ruthless sociopath (Raymond Burr) willing to destroy all in his path to secure his objective, which in this case, is possessing Lizabeth Scott, no matter what, is what propels "Pitfall" into the ranks of a chilling film noir drama. He is a Corrupt private detective who overlooks the unyielding rebuff of Scott, who detests him, and is convinced she will eventually go ga-ga over him- first, he needs to put Powell and her criminal boyfriend out of the way as he realises she that holds true feelings for the decent but fallible Powell. If he can successfully play off one man against the other they will be removed from the picture, leaving him to take up romantically with Scott.
This film sort of predates Fatal attraction/Cape Fear, in regard to addressing deadly obsession, which, ultimately leads to tragedy. It's an excellent noir thriller that holds your attention right to the end and boasts terrific performances by all, especially Raymond Burr who is one terrifying creep.

Recently released after being wrongly imprisoned for robbery, Rocky Malloy (Dick Powell) is determined to track down the guys who framed him and discover the missing loot.
The man who done him wrong is Castro (William Conrad), but as Rocky digs deeper into the case he learns the truth ...
Cry Danger moves at a cracking pace with plenty of plot development and action, along with snappy dry dialogue, most of that coming from the disabled alcoholic veteran played by Richard Erdman. Rhonda Fleming plays the wife of Dick Powell's friend who is still the hoosegow for six more months. Thanks to the disabled veteran, Powell got out early - and is out for revenge. A solid thriller with some good gunplay and a neat twist at the end.
