I didn't see the first series of Karen Pirie, so my comments are focused on the second series.
I am not by experience a "high rater," but I am giving this series an 8. I disagree with the comments in the review above mine - but, hey, we are all entitled to our views.
I thought the story was sharp and compelling, the acting and direction first class, and there was little to claim as holes in the plot. The ending was a little drawn out but did not spoil the 6 hours of drama that preceded it.
I do recommend this as a good watch.

After giving all preceding episodes a "9", this one is very disappointing.
The storyline becomes very far-fetched and not believable. I am not going to say more about that, as I don't want to have to press the Spoiler button.
As others have written, there are a number of goofs and the acting by Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, very much over the top. The role played by Joanne Froggatt - supposedly an intelligent woman, becomes stupid and therefore unbelievable.
One other point: I live around the corner from Ritchie Stevenson's house in this series and pass it every day. In January (2025), the road was closed several times whilst filming took place, causing great inconvenience to all in the area. It's just off the A1 in North-west London.
