I watched this movie last night with my daughter. While Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet made an attractive couple, I really couldn't get into this movie. The characters meet while traveling cross county and their paths cross repeatedly through the years. If this plot seems familiar, it is because A Lot About Love is a poor ripoff of the much better film,When Harry Met Sally. There are a few humorous moments in the film, for example, when the couple is caught sleeping in the middle of a national park by a highway patrolman. Unfortunately the script also called upon Ashton Kutcher to sing in several scenes. If I had to do it all over again, I would skip this mess and go straight to When Harry Met Sally.
I have just returned from seeing "Troy" and thoroughly enjoyed the film. While anyone familiar with the story knows how it all ends, I found this film a great way to spend a hot summer afternoon. It is one of those huge epic films Cecil B. Demille used to make. This movie has just the right blend of humor, romance and tragedy. While there is a great deal of violence and some nudity, none of it is overly graphic. Peter O'Toole was absolutely marvelous as King Priam. Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana provide enough eye-candy for the most fickle female viewer. The battle scenes are quite believable as is the sack of Troy. If you enjoyed "Gladiator", you'll also enjoy "Troy".
I also saw Male of the Species once as a teenager and I have never forgotten the movie or how enchanted I was with Michael Caine. I remember it being funny, sad, and terribly romantic. I always wished I could have seen it again. If ever it is released on DVD, run to the nearest store and buy it. I know I will.
