It's 1970. Jim Lovell - Tom Hanks - has dreamed of rockets since he was a child. He commandeered Apollo 8 which circled the Moon multiple times but didn't land. That was left to Apollo 11. Now Jim is married to his high school sweetheart, Marilyn - Kathleen Quinlan - and the father of 4. He believes he will be on Apollo 14 and land on the moon. Soon. But, fate steps in with complications. Now, Jim will command Apollo 13 and launch in 6 months. Training is grueling while teens at home act out. Then, a last minute case of measles means a substitute astronaut for Jim's crew. All the while Marilyn is distraught about the #13. Hey, hey. The launch is successful. But, alas, near the Moon something goes wrong. A whatzit fails and now the whole crew is in danger. There will be no Moon landing. The most important thing is staying alive and landing back on Earth. Can Apollo 13 make it? This fine film, directed by Ron Hward, has a stellar cast, a fine script, a wonder of special effects and a harrowing true story to tell. Without any doubt, Apollo 13's tale is one of the most heroic events in American history. You must experience it !
Superman lands wounded near his hideout in Antarctica. A dog hero drags S into the lair. While trying to stop a war between an aggressive country and their poorer neighboring nation, Superman was attacked by a new enemy, a huge man with special powers. As he heals, Superman learns this new enemy works for Lex Luthor. Seems Lex has a new and clever plan to rule the world. And a secret prison for enemies. Meanwhile, Superman finds solace kissing Lois Lane and getting help from 3 other superhero friends. Yet, a Lex finds a way to put Superman in his hidden jail. Can Lex achieve his goal? This is a pretty good film. The cast is nice, especially Nicholas Hoult as Lex, the effects are good and the sets are striking. However, I was just lukewarm to the movie. Superhero fans may like it just fine.
Shortly before the end of the Civil War, a bumbling private accidentally leads his troop to victory. Promoted to Captain Parmenter, he is still regarded as a weak link and sent far west to Fort Courage. Once there, his deficiencies in leadership are welcome news. This is because the Sergeant O'Rourke and Corporal Agarn have joined the peaceful local Indian tribe in selling Native American souvenirs to the folks back East. They wish to continue to make money. Oh sure, on occasion they arrange for a fake battle with the tribe to keep the Fort going. Almost every week some Army guy or spy tries to get the real picture but the duo of O and A fools everyone. Meanwhile, the prettiest gal in the area falls for the Captain, making him blush. How long can this troop keep going? This classic 60s TV show has a great cast and splendidly amusing scripts. Here is the Wild West tamed by moonshine and Indian blanket sales. The F in F troop stands for Fun.
