Just about the time I think Bill Pullman couldn't do any better.......along comes another diamond.....this one not the least bit in the rough. Beautiful authentic adaptation of Owen Wister's book...marveously cast, and the scenery a feast for the eyes. Even though the Canadian scenery was extraordinarily beautiful, I would have liked to have had the movie filmed in the U.S.A.

The female lead was a bit wooden, but she can be credited with giving a passable performance. I venture to ask.....why would a Vermont straight laced, proper lady venture out into the wilds of the untamed West and still demand an eastern gentleman's manners? A cowboy's manners are every bit as appropriate as any other gentleman's for a lady....and Bill Pullman's Virginian was every bit a gentleman. He needed no educating from Molly 'in that regard'.

I do take pleasure viewing Bill's father-in-law as an extra in Bill's films. A nice gesture.....typically Pullman. His children must have had fun being in Dad's film also. What a guy!!!!!!!!!!!

My last post on Zero Effect was Hubby's view.....this is mine. Zero Effect is a film which should not be missed by anyone who enjoys Bill Pullman's performances. This one is his BEST. A series as in the Mike Hammer, Sam Spade, or even the television Rockford Files would be welcome. In this film Bill takes me from laughter (his singing and guitar playing, and he's wearing my red long johns) to pain (the delicatessen scene when he's describing his 'evil and abusive father.....he woke up and everything was different....powerful !!!!), to compassion, (sitting on the floor beside the bed with the 'cold dark in my heart' calling for Mama). I've even come to the end of the tape, re-wound it to play again immediately and entertain myself with it as a 'second feature'.

We've watched this film many times and I keep falling in love over and over and over, with Sergio Knight, Nick Carmine, (Dr.) Mitchell Hodgemeyer, Ph.D. Esq., Harrold Darmine, Sergio Burges (?) and, of course Darryl Zero. I am surprised that this movie was not considered for an Academy Award. It's a fine, fine piece of work. Loud applause for Bill Pullman, Kim Dickens, Ryan O'Neal, and Ben Stiller. Many thanks to the young Mr. Kasdan......a talented Hollywood brat.

We've travelled many miles to view Bill Pullman movies and fortunately this one came to our local theatre. Unfortunately, the theatre was not packed, as it should have been, and my loud guffaws bounced from wall to wall. Nora Ephron should have cast Sandra Bullock in the Lottery girl's role....minus the filthy mouth. Too much gratuitous foul language from Lisa Kudrow who also gave a 'forced' performance. Travolta was disarming as the 'oh so cool' weatherman, he carried his role well. Who stole the movie?? Bill Pullman with his comedic skills did!!!! His Officer Lakewood was outstandingly outstanding. His body language and facial expressions communicate admirably to an audience. Hollywood should acknowledge this marvelous actor a bit more.

I love Ephron's signatures, Christmas time, snow globes, pleasant music. How about another Ephron, Pullman, Bullock movie?
